It is possible, BUT would not be worth it, the downtime processing the message echos would be extraordinary .. When I was running on a real setup back in the 90's one of the legs of the Image Network went down, messages piled up and I received a 2 meg (2 MEG) message pack, it took almost 8 hours for a 1mhz machine to process the hundreds of messages. NOW yes you could probably write a program to convert the messages to Image or C-Net compatible, but do you really want to be processing messages all day? I run 2 HUBS on the NISSA Network for Image (Soon will have DS2's hooked up to it) those HUBS are connected to half the network 2 HUBS feed 22 nodes of the network, and they are constantly churning.. Yes there is down time but getting Fido style nets into a C64 network would be tough again because of the processing time. BTW that 2 meg file was about 300 messages, Fido churns out on average 500-1000 messages a day. fsxNet churns out about 2-400 messages a day. Although C=Net is technically new it can if it gets popular again churn out those types of numbers.. Not saying it can't be done, but I don't think it is worth it.

Not saying it couldn't be done, but a conversion program would have to be written to convert the text file from FTN format to DS2 format, THEN you would have to write a front end to accept the call in from the FTN network. Like I said it is not impossible, but would take a lot of work..

Networking is already there with DS-2. Just need to convert and add 1 more message base that is also shared with the rest of the world.

I completely understand Networking is already there, but as I say above you would need a conversion program written on the C-Net side to convert the files that are transferred to FTN format and adhere to their standards. Then you would have to write a front end to accept the "call in" from a Bink style connection, DS-2 like Image uses a completely different format for connections. They don't support Bink connections. Like I said it is not impossible, but it would take a lot of work to get done. Besides programming these files in Basic, you would most likely need someone to program the Bink protocol that is used as the file transfer to Commodore as I am sure they are not using Punter or Xmodem, but more then likely something along the lines of ZModem.. I would LOVE to see this and in fact Frank Linhares who used to run a network (can't remember the name) wanted to do the software to hook us all up, I sent him the files he would need to analyze and convert, and he disappeared right after that.. Maybe someone else is up for the task. I can provide anything they need..
