• CNN DEBATE: Cruz vs. Sanders on fixing US health care

"Should Congress move swiftly to repeal Obamacare?" Sen. Ted Cruz asked during a CNN town hall debate on Tuesday night. "Absolutely."

His opponent, Sen. Bernie Sanders, offered the consequences.

"If you are one of 20 million Americans who finally has received health insurance, forget about it -- you're gone," Sanders said.

The senators offered radically different views on how to fix the US health care system at the debate[1], which featured questions from an audience consisting of both defenders and critics of the Affordable Care Act.

One breast cancer patient feared she wouldn't be able to afford health insurance without Obamacare. Cruz promised her Republicans would keep insurance companies from canceling coverage for someone just because they were sick.

Sanders was incredulous. "Ted, I cannot believe what you just said. It's a direct contradiction of everything you ran for President on," he said.

The debate comes as Republicans wrestle with how to live up to their promises to make Obamacare more affordable and to reform Medicaid.
