• What the CIA knows

    From CNN Breaking News@VERT to no-reply@siteservices.cnn.com on Tue Mar 7 13:13:52 2017
The CIA knows how to hack TVs and phones, and the agency's cyberweapons have been stolen, a WikiLeaks document dump alleges.[1]

The CIA has become the preeminent hacking operation, spying on people worldwide, according to WikiLeaks' publication Tuesday of leaked internal documents.

To hide its operations, the CIA routinely adopted hacking techniques that enabled them to appear as if they were hackers in Russia, WikiLeaks said.

But nearly all of the CIA's arsenal of privacy-crushing cyberweapons have been stolen, WikiLeaks said, and the tools are potentially in the hands of criminals and foreign spies.

You don't say, huh? Makes you wonder considering recent hacks that were
blamed on Russia that include "proof" it was them. BTW, that is not something only the CIA can do. Non-US hackers have got good enough that they can e-file your tax return from their home country and make all the internet data with
it look like it came right from your hometown.

Heck, maybe they are using that hacked CIA information to do so.

    This is only smart.

Stated by an agency responsible for posting stolen information... hmmmm.

Yeah, but it is not the CIA's job to spy on Americans on American soil.
Pretty sure that is a big no-no, least it used to be before Obama. Yet, most of the stuff that has come out... hacking phones and TVs to turn them into spybots... appear to be things they wanted to use for just that.

No, not the CIA's job, but the FBI's job.

Sharing of information between CIA and FBI used to be a severe no-way. However after 9/11/01, the Patriot Act enacted by Bush II blurred the lines.

The Patriot Act had a lot of good to it, but also had some bad.

In exchange for heightened security provided by anyone other than yourself, you must give up some of your privacy.

While I agree with the notion of strong international defense, I also believe that the best place to secure ourselves is at home. That is, our own home, with our own weapons.

Of course, that would requir training and the raising of the awareness of personal security options.
