Thousands of people have been r[1]escued from the flooding brought on by Harvey[2], but an untold number are still trapped in their homes awaiting help as Harvey continues to batter Texas. ÿ
The rainfall from Harvey reached a record high: Areas southeast of downtown Houston reported more than 48 inches of rain, the most ever recorded from a tropical storm in the contiguous US.
The storm is expected to make a second landfall on Wednesday. As water continues to rise in Houston and other parts of Texas, the deadly storm could dump up to 15 more inches of rain in the area and in western Louisiana.ÿ
Here are the latest developments[3]:
-- Houston's mayor issued a nightly curfew for the flooded city from midnight to 5 a.m. until further notice to prevent property crimes of evacuated homes.
-- President Trump visited Corpus Christi and Austin on Tuesday[4] to review aid efforts. He will go to Louisiana on Saturday.ÿ
-- A Houston police officer's body was recovered early Tuesday. He drowned trying to get to work during the flood.
-- Houston and Dallas opened up mega-shelters to host the thousands of evacuees.
-- Houston officials will not ask for immigration status or documentation from anyone at any shelter.
