US Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl has received a dishonorable discharge but will avoid prison time for desertion and misbehavior before the enemy after abandoning his outpost in 2009, a military judge ruled Friday.

The Army soldier, who was held captive by the Taliban for five years after he deserted his Afghanistan outpost in 2009, pleaded guilty last month.

Bergdahl was released by the Taliban in May 2014 in a controversial exchange for five Guantanamo Bay detainees.

Not treason, desertion. And he should have been shot for it. Misbehavior before the enemy is another way of saying Cowardice before the Enemy. Which is also punishable by death.

The judge who ruled on this is the traitor and violated the rules of the UCMJ (Uniform Code of Military Justice) which is not the same as the rules/laws ordinary citizens of this country live under.

This was nothing more than a complete travesty of justice and will serve as a precendent for cowards to get away with walking away from their duties in the future. This ruling was ignorant on so many levels and will ultimately destroy military morale.

Pissed me off if you can't tell. Makes me wish I'd never served.

No he wasn't an idiot. He did manage to get elected twice. But what he did was totally unacceptable as a sitting president. The US doesn't negotiate with terrorists...or at least we shouldn't.

Of course, the rules have changed since I was in the military.

I don't mean that he is a total Idiot but in this case releasing 5 terrorist's for one deserter and yes (Traitor) he was a total idiot for that.
I did'nt hate president Obama, I didn't vote for him either.
