Imagine going back to the 80's and explaing to someone, even to yourself, ho in 30 years computers would be EXPONENTIALLY more powerful (Processor, memor bus speeds, storage space, modem speeds, etc). Also how there had been an African-American President for two terms and the first woman would likely wi
Or that even tho these computers would have so much memory and disk and processor, and the speeds of communications were near real-time, and all we're really doing is sending emails like we're doing in the 80's over dialup.
Games and game consoles and computers are actually the same now (game systems ARE pcs), and basically nothing has changed.
Today I was just thinking about how boring my IT job is and how i dread managing yet another boring change to our company's website... It's 2016. Why are we still using computers and browsers, and concerned with
WEBSITES. uggg.
only thing that really gets me is how i can download shit via my
cellphone in one minute that would take me hours in the dialup days.

Exactly. And sometimes you can download stuff on your phone faster than you can on the internet... I've been in spots with no wifi / ethernet
and used my phone as a 4G hotspot for laptop or tablet with awesome performance.
Phones today are more powerful than our pcs of the past.
Remember the days "before" smartphones when we marvelled at GPS on a PDA?
Today's phones are more powerful than the computers used to send rockets to the moon.

Oh yes. I had such a great time with theses devices.
Started with a Palm IIII. Still remember that I was always carrying extra AAA Batteries all the time for it.
Then i graduated to a palm III clone, a TRGpro that was accepting compact flash card, was identical to a Palm III in every way.

I'm sure pda showed the was for the smart phone we use today

The one I love the most was I believed theirs coolest. ( non treo

Every time I boot it up I say "Damn this was a good device." ;)
I wanted one of those TRGPros. I had an original Pilot 5000, a III with an 8 megabyte add-on, then a Palm Vx, and still have a ton of ebooks formatted for it.
I can still hear those sync tones when I think about it.

Just sad that it went away. Web os might have been cool. But maybe building on palm os would have worked better.
8 meg ! Cool
Yes that ereader format was quite good. Even barn&noble used it on theirs ereaders. Even that mobi one had.

Now, everyone's steering you away from mobile browsing and onto a dedicated phone app.It seems everyone wants to have their own portal to the world. We need an app thats a conglomeration of all the technologies that we use on the Internet.

you know there is an open source software for that, it's called caliber
( http://calibre-ebook.com/ ) check it, it's multi-platform and can convert a lot of different ebooks formats to any other format.
I highly recommend Calibre, it's an extremely good way to manage your ebooks.

They balance out. :) I can spend time sorting through MP3s, changing
the artist to lastname, firstname (my pet peeve) and setting genre and album artwork for long periods on end.
The problem was that I had an 16GB iPhone synced to my work computer, iTunes at home and a 64 GB card in my car. Keeping everything updated
was a pain.
Now I've got an Android phone with a 128 GB card, I'm going to set up Bittorrent Sync between the car's SD card, my phone and my desktop.

I'm pretty sure I've replied to messages in newsgroups with an nntp
reader that used the recipient's name in a reply instead of "All". I suppose it might depend on the nntp reader..?

WeirdStuff Warehouse in Sunnyvale had a handspring Visor in clear, IN

They've been in Sunnyvale, CA since at least the late 80s. WW and Halted Specialties right down the road used to get very odd surplus crap from
the valley back when it was all aerospace and computer manufacturing.
