|14 Calligrammes of Apollinaire
|14---------------------------
Guillaume Apollinaire's Calligrames from the early years of the past century
are the extension of character use in literary and poetic expression.
Something that echoes the Calligraphy of the middle East but once
translated into Western forms of both language and character, is eventually
represented in what visually can be described as |15ASCII art.
Apollinaire was not the only one to use this technique at the time as both
|02DADAists |07and |11Surrealists |07have used the character forms in order to
play with both format and the flow of the message.
This collection of Calligrammes is in French but there are readily
available translations to English of most of the poems hereby included
with the exception of calligrammes ones, for obvious reasons as the
form of the poem is in direct flow with the character positioning.
