to you linux/unix people, what mail client is your fave? Or maybe you just use a browser?

All of my personal email eventually ends up going to a webmail account, and I read it in the browser (or through an app on my phone). A decent chunk of that is forwarded along by Synchronet.

At work I use Thunderbird with a plugin for MS Exchange. I'm not crazy about it, but it's better than the Outlook web application.

For my personal mail, I tend to just use a web browser these days. But Thunderbird was my favorite for a long time. At work, I use Outlook since that's what they set up for us on our machines. And they use a MS Exchange mail server anyway, which works along with Outlook for features such as email recall, and mail filters on the mail server.

Gotta agree pine (Al)pine for CLI mode but since everything is basically

else - unless for some godforsaken reason I need to talk to an Exchange Server in which case it's Outlook (Outlook on OS X isn't actually all that bad)..

I am embarassed to say that my favorite local email client now is Outlook Express; I had it running on the BBS but had to replace it with Thunderbird when I went to a different version of Windows. I got used to it, and with OE QuoteFix, a plugin that bottom quoted, it worked nicely on the BBS.

It's been a real long time since I used OE. I use full featured Outlook all the time at work. I don't remember too many details on OE, but it seemed pretty good at the time. At home I'm just not on Windows enough to even use email with it. I may toy around with a few more things at some point now that I'm on Win 10 on my laptop, but I'm usually just using it to log into work to put out fires on the weekends.
