    Hello All!

I love the thrift store! Especially Habitat for Humanity on 75% off day,

Last month I got the computer I run my BBS off of, and an LCD flat screen monitor for $7.50.

Today found me a NICE Dell flatscreen monitor, "One with a cool swivel stand that telescopes and fits nicely between my Dell Laptop and my other monitor" and an older compaq presario laptop for $2.50, Everything has worked well so far. just needed cleaning.. I do need to find a power adapter for the old laptop though.

Now I have a Dual moniter setup on my Debian 8 Jesse dell system and it rocks! loving it, Now I can call my system TriPod, but I thing Angus had a copyright on that.. SO I shall call The Debian system Zaphod, and the BBS system "Dummie" since it runs XP and is slow as Zaphods lower head :)

    HAhahah..

Pisssss..... But it was 99 cents.. lol

Man, I really wish our thrift stores would have such awesome finds like that. I have looked in a couple of Goodwills here and all they have are just junk. I had one find for my two kids that was an awesome deal (a play set was on sale at Goodwill for ~$30, retail is about ~$150), but nothing in the electronics department. :(

I have to drive about 40 miles south of me to Cartersville to do it, but its worth it.. anytime any of the Goodwill, or Salvation Army around here get any computer gear they think they are sitting on a gold mine and price it at an awful price, I understand why though, because the idiots around here buy it as soon as it hits the floor. So I take a trip to cartersville about twice a week just to go thrift shopping. dude, they have thrift shops down there that GIVE dvds away, so of course these are the stores I make sure that I donate my items to. :)

Nice find! Usually the computers at the store around here are $10 or so but are usually missing the side of the case or have been gutted. I did manage
to find an old 486 a few years ago, floppy drives, tape drive and all. I did need to replace the CMOS battery, it forgot everything every time I shut it off.

It would be nice to find working computer stuff in thrift stores. My local Goodwills and other stores sometimes have computers and monitors and such, but I don't really trust it enough to buy from most thrift stores. I imagine many people donate computer stuff because it isn't fully working. However, there is a store in my area (called Free Geek) that takes computer donations and restores them and sells them, and I think they typically have some good deals on PCs.

It's great to know my local sanitation company can take e-waste for free in our recycling bins equal to a desktop PC or 17" monitor, so I can buy a $2.50 monitor and toss it if it doesn't work. :)

Its not always that way, I have to drive to Atlanta practically to get a deal on anything, Anytime a thrift store in this area gets their hands on anything electronic, they think they have landed in a gold mine.. It's crazy, I've seen them price stuff for more than you can buy it new.

Most places let you test them, if it turns on and you can get to a menu, than it usually should work, thats been my experience anyway.

I've bought four led monitors, one being a Dell 17" with a very nice telescopic swiveling type stand that allowes me to move the monitor pretty much all over my desktop, have'nt payed over 5 dollars for any one of them and all are still working great.
