• Chip, a 9 dollar computer!

This is so cool guys n gals, a 9 dollar arm based machine, with amazing resources (for 9 dollars, that is)...

I just dig this, and it uses my fave (and in my personal opinion, the world's best) operating system Linux!

Chip Os is debian based as well. Thank you chip peeps!

(and as always, it's a bit of shameless plug because I wrote the article) :D

I have a few Raspberry Pi's, and at $5 the Pi Zero is quit capable, but the CHIP does have a few things the Pi Zero does not. I specifically like the CHIP's VGA "hat"; to get VGA on a Pi Zero you have to do some soldering.

It's amazing what <$10 can get you in computing these days, just amazing.

You can't use an HDMI->VGA converter, like you can with the 2B?

The CHIP base module doesn't offer any easy way to output video (apart from maybe composite out of its TRRS jack, IIRC). To get VGA or HDMI out, you need an accessory board (a "dip" rather than a "hat", in this ecosystem).

You certainly can. If you want to solder, you can output vga with the gpio pins as well, for a few bucks if you're creative and handy. I do like that the CHIP has a stock/oem VGA-out option though, that connects to directly without soldering. I believe the VGA option is only $10.

I get that there are pluses and minuses for both the CHIP and the Pi family. I have 3 Pis and no CHIPS, but I'd love to try the CHIP out sometime.

Sorry, I actually meant the Pi Zero. I saw some things about the CHIP when
it first came out. If I had the $$$ I probably would have tried out every single SBC out there by now but, as it is, I just have the Pi 2B.
