I just watched a video yesterday about a fairly simple modification one can
do to a pi zero (and presumably it would also work on a chip, or other SBC) that lets you plug it directly into a usb port and telnet/ssh/vnc into it without a separate network.. So it's like a directly connected little
machine. Pretty nifty, and while it necessitates some soldering it's very
minor soldering:
