Hi Everyone,
I just wanted to say a quick howdy. I came across this bbs after seeing it on our host's blog and had to sign up.
I have found memories of my family's first computer running DOS, and I enjoy finding modern uses for old technology. I'm also a big history nerd, and enjoy in particular studying ancient Rome and ancient Egypt.
I look forward to talking with all of you.
Best Regards,
GJC

Welcome back to the BBS scene!
I have found memories of my family's first computer running DOS, and I en finding modern uses for old technology.
I was the same way as well. Before the Internet was starting to be common, used to connect to local BBSes in the area and download games and software f an Atari ST computer that I had at the time. I never did the messaging or t door games with it. The BBS I mainly connected to was just a local computer shop that sold IBM compatable and Atari software and hardware.
Ah, the good ol' days. Honestly, I was pleasently shocked to see that BBSes are still around; thought that they might have died out when the Internet boomed.

Yes, it's a very pleasant surprise that BBS are still around! They may be "outdated", but I find the fact that my hands never have to leave the keyboard to use them very covenient. Also, makes me feel cool :X
Atari, that reminds me that I need to play my 2600jr more often. And need to r eplace my decesed NES :X It's just money right?
Thank you for the welcome!

I think sometime that the web could be gone and you would still have old boa still up. it's outdated but very resilient
can work on slow landline, radio packet network etc.
Re: Re: Heya
Not that everything new is garbage, but sometimes the durability of certain things comes into question.

i also love egyptian history. but only the pharoahs and pyramids. amazing how they came up with that. did you get your general? i got tech in jan 2017. km6gyo california
No, I have'nt. I really need to brush back up on it and take the test. I rea should have tested for the general while testing for tech, On my practice te I was acing the tech exam, but not so good on general. I was'nt secure enoug to go ahead and test for it, but looking back now I feel I would have probab passed it then if I would have tested for it :-)Well Bummer. I downloaded a book via nook? it's free and the general is just tech with additional knowledge of the HF bandplan really. I might try it but right now I haven't the space to set up a HF shack. Do you interact with the wins system or echolink etc? I should create an account on your BBS I hear there is a lot of HAM discussion. I am thinking of 'just trying' fbbs and ax.25 as a packet bbs just so I can say...
