Have point programs for android, but newsreaders are more
praticles.
I like Piaohong Usenet reader (Android).
Points suffer some problems similar to NNTP, namely that the last read information is kept on the client side (NNTP) or point (point). But I'm someone who likes to be able to switch devices, so keeping the last read pointers on the BBS works better for me. QWK does this. It's just a pity a QWK reader/terminal is not available for smartphones and tablets. I don't understand why a point was developed before a QWK reader.
The point software I've seen for Android also has some significant limitations (like support for 1 AKA - my BBS has over half a dozen).
If I was going to run a point, I'd be running it at home, then exporting mail to my various devices via QWK or Bluewave. I already have BBSs, so a point would be redundant. All I need is that QWK reader for my devices. :)
I have been able to work in NNTP with my QWK reading. Requires some manual work to synchronise last read pointers when switching devices, but it does work. More annoying is synchronising echo lists/newsgroup subscriptions. I use NewsTap on the iPad. It's an offline NNTP reader. Haven't decided on anything for the Android phone yet. However, I will need a news reader with offline capability. At the best of times, I prefer to be isolated from the network (must faster to navigate articles) and at worst, what network? I do go beyond mobile phone coverage from time to time.
