BBSes kinda grew up as I did, I was born in 77, and had a couple commodore computers when I was a real young kid (never any modem access). but once I turned 12 or 13 I was working in a resteraunt washing dishes and making money,
so I was able to afford my first PC. I ended up putting it online, then started
offering fidonet and other networks, along with some games. people wanted to start subscribing, so by the time everything was finished I had an ISDN line run to the house split to 2 phone numbers, along with a satellite feed for fidonet (did'nt last long, too expensive, plus I was able to get an internet feed on the ISDN) that was the days when the next county over was a long distance call. I ended up having about 20 subscribers, plus many many who were
on my free accounts (very limited) very fun for a teen :) Then dialup internet
finally started getting popular and affordable around 1995 or so around here..
so that was the last of my subscriber service. :)

Hello back to you. I've visited many bbs in the 90's ( my youth) then
got on the Internet and let go of BBS's. Its only been a couple of week that I discovered them back. Its great. I like it tbh. Even its people
all over the world in some way, it feels local even on dove.net
OK, so unlike the old days, there's not so many users around, but it's fun being online again. :)

I started on BBSs in 1991 when I left home and moved to Melbourne, which put me
within local call range of many BBSs. Prior to that, the cost of modems was prohibitive, and any BBSs were a long distance call away. Ran a board with a friend for a number of yearsuntil the late 1990s, by which time the Internet rapidly took over. I discovered Synchronet a few years ago and dabbled with DOVE-Net, but at the time, I didn't have anywhere to really run a board. The VPS I tried it on is heavily utilised for ham radio stuff, and I didn't want to
have the overhead of a BBS on it. By late 2015, I had a number of Raspberry Pi
and simplar systems, and revisited Synchronet, and with the Pi available, I made a second and lasting attempt to get a board running. I've enjoyed my time
back on BBSs since. :)

Random sidenote: usenet has a lot of spam, but the right server means
(no spam) or atleast less than the kak at eternal-september.org.

It's great to know that there is that little hangout off the web still alive.
And it's not full of adds and pop-up, so it's even better :-)

It would be awesome to get Usenet access going.

FSXNET? Does it pull some groups from Usenet?
