Define, "Up Time". ;) Windows 10 misreports Up Time, even if it is just a "shutdown"; which I really suspect that it's just hybernation with a "shutdown" label.

Code it, script it, automate it!
Also as a seperate question, who has had the longest uptime for a machine that ran a BBS?
I'd like to start a friendly bet to see who can run their BBS for the longest without a restart #TeamKK4QBN

Honestly I don't remember offhand, as I haven't really been tracking that. But I tend to make regular backups of my BBS (or at least every so often), and usually I shut down my BBS so that it won't hold onto any files as I'm copying/compressing them to back them up (or possibly worse, modify files as the backup is in progress). So I'd say I normally don't have my BBS running longer than a week or a month or so before I do a backup.

I've been on customer machines that haven't been rebooted in years. I think the longest was getting close to 5 years. These are HP-Unix and/or RHEL linux machines.
My Cobalt Qube had an uptime of 440 days once, then I rebooted it for no good reason at all.
My windows computers are usually rebooted once a week or so, sometimes more often.

I don't know about BBS machines, or even computers, but I've had a fan running for about two years non-stop in my bedroom, mainly for its ambient noise that helps cancel out my tinnitis. ;-)
But, alas, I'm one of those backup freaks, so Synchronet never runs beyond seven days before a shutdown. As for the computer running it, I can get three or four months through the winter if a snow storm doesn't knock out the power. But, living in the Midwestern US means at least a handful of shutdowns during spring and summer to avoid lightning damage during thunderstorms.

I'm not sure if it counts as 3.5 years straight if it reboots every day automatically. Unless you wouldn't count the daily reboots as interrupting
uptime?

Yes, and sometimes it can be fairly bad, depending on the person and their case. There are whitenoise generators that tinnitus sufferers can wear in their ears (which look similar to hearing aids), which help with the noise.
From what I've heard, I don't think there is a cure, just ways to deal with
(such as the whitenoise generators). I've heard of cases where it can be bad
enough that it can contribute to depression, and also it can cause reduced sound tolerance, making the person very sensitive to loud noises (for instance,
police and ambulance sirens might bother a tinnitus sufferer).

Oh yes, reboot stops uptime. I see what you mean but I am only counting machines where they have not been rebooted.

there's no way to understand it unless you have it. i have had a loud

yeah but it's hard to describe. they dont know how to treat it or what can cause it. can be multiple things.

I have tinitis. It sux! I find white noise works best.

I hope you guys with tinnitis do not have it that bad. Best of luck to you g

i'm not sure if i'm not being clear, or if nightfox is being too literal, but [sentence 1] i said i had all that uptime,
[sentence 2] i said i reboot my windows computers once a day
i run linux servers and windows computers and also run vms on windows and linux servers.

No there is no cure and yes it caused me depression and I would get severe panic attacks which made the ringing in my ear worse.

Your right nobody can understand. (I do cause I have it). I used to get drunk and eat valiums the doctors prescribed me to cope with my Tinitus. Now I put
on some tunes or play my guitar through the head phones when the ringing gets to be too much. White noise works OK but sometimes that will aggrivate me
which makes the rining louder. I don't recommend the drinking and druggin. That caused me more problems then just having the Tinitus. The main thing for me is to keep calm. Try not to focus on the ringing and keep busy.

I have Tinnitus too, likely from playing drums and in rock bands for so many years (and the concerts I attended and guns I shot without hearing protection).
Yep. I've had it in one ear since an ear infection at six years old. Ringing in the other ear started in my late teens due to cranking a loud guitar amp during constant practicing. It really bothered me well into adulthood, hence the constant fan, but for about the last 10 years, I've actually come to realize I'd rather keep the ringing if a cure is found. Weird, I know, but I've had it so long that it would be much stranger to me to have clear

You always nuke the archives? Doesn't that make them useless then?
So you had 3.5 years but just rebooted tgat machine and that stopped that 3.5 year long rub.
The windows boxes are a different story, the rebooted
daily?

eating raw garlic cloves can help.
eating crushed fresh garlic cloves is a very hard thing to do. it burns. it has to be fresh and it burns!

There are garlic supplement pills available, though it's probably much cheaper to stick with the raw garlic. It's too bad you can't use pickled cloves. Those are surprisingly tasty, especially if part of a snack vegetable mix or relish.
Honestly I don't remember offhand, as I haven't really been tracking that.
those pills dont do anything. you have to crush it and then a chemical react occurs and you ingest it. they cant be sitting around or processed.
