For those using Windows 10, I'm curious what you think of its user interface? IMO I think it's a bit ugly - I think it looks too flat and 2-dimensional, and many of its color schemes are rather monotone. Non-Microsoft apps make better use of color though, but overall it still looks very flat. I think Windows 7 looked better - Even if you disabled Aero (to get the more classic Windows appearance), I think that looked better than Windows 10. It seems the major OS makers (Microsoft, Apple, and Google (Android) ) have all moved toward this flat monotone appearance, which I don't really understand. I thought both Windows and OS X looked better in older versions. I thought OS X Tiger and Leopard had a really nice appearance, even the icons, but everything was made more flat and monotone eventually.
I've been using Windows 10 on my main PC and laptop at home, and I'm using Stardock's Object Desktop (mainly WindowBlinds and IconPackager) to make it look better.

I like it. Infact I think it has a less distracting theme.

I'm fine with it; and the Anniversy release improved a bit on the colors. When I saw Microsot first introduce the flat theme in Windows 8, I thought they were taking a step backwards and looking too close to Window 3.1.
I suspect that there had been a lot of positive feedback on it; otherwise, Google nor Apple wouldn't have followed the same trend. I'm guessing that the flatness and monochromeness is a lot less busy looking and less overwhelming than the Areo or Luna themes.

I ran it since it's release (Still do on the "main" computer). I find
it distracting and ugly and filled with ads.
I switched this laptop back to windows 7, but all it really does it
offline mail, hidden object games, and DVD player as it spends 5 months
of the year in the woods.
I actually prefered windows 8 interface to 10's, which is strange since
no one liked that one. ;)

Where have you seen ads in Windows 10? I haven't seen any.
I don't really see much difference besides a few tweaks here and there.

Onedrive ads. It is a thing. I've seen it myself.

Like drop down boxes in explorer. These drop down banners.
I like the appearance. Its simple and does the job. Between 7 and 10, I rather have 7 because of the details around the UI. But thats just me. This simple interface makes me think of the tablet which I don't really like.
On the functionality side, GO FUCK YOURSELF MICROSOFT. OMFG, I've never
But on theme UI side, you can visit linustechtips for help on how to get your windows 10 UI that looks like the original windows 7...just search on his youtube channel, its there I think its called "windows 9".
besides that, I like windows 10, its very solid and gives a big performance especially for my games.

Was this referring to where you've seen ads? (would be good if you could quote the part of the message you're referencing.) Interesting, as I haven't seen any ads in Explorer. Makes me wonder if they're targeting only some systems, and why they'd put ads in the OS in the first place, assuming the customer or OEM has legally purchased the OS..

To me an operating system's purpose is to provide applications access to the system resources, provide user I/O and ensure that the hardware does what it's supposed to. I really don't care what it looks like as long as it does that.
It does make suggestions for applications in the start menu.I ran it since it's release (Still do on the "main" computer). I find
it distracting and ugly and filled with ads.

This is more than that. IMHO, it happens to people who were unfortunate enough to have apps like M$ Onedrive or iCloud pre-installed on their systems. They are pop up windows that come up (not in the internet browser, but on the desktop) shortly after the user logs on. They really, really slow down the machine.

On a side note, how is that any different than our Android phones with some of the apps that we use in our daily lives? I get notifications
from Pandora and WhiteNoise Market place telling me to try out
different things. I never had bothered with disabling their notifications... Might as well do that now while I have the free time.
:)
N ³ is typical these days, I'd want the GUI to look at least halfway decent so N ³ can
N ³ present information in a way that is nice to read/see.
That's what the application software is supposed to take care of...

Cant say I have either, if anything they have simplified the display and "ta away" from the UI, which I really enjoy. I like 10 over any of the versions now. at the beginning though there were some bugs on both my dell and toshib laptops that would bake it unusable, they fixed that quickly though.

I think he means the metro icons which are acting like ads. Personally, I don't care since I can turn them off or remove them but its more of the privacy settings and all the stuff running in the background thats sending
