    Why im attracted to the bbs? It is private, It is like my own personal internet, More customizable than a mesh like hyperboria and much more experimentation is possible.

    I like the community, as well as the simple text mode interfaces, and then those additional features that were designed to use modem time and bandwidth more efficiently, but still serve a purpose, such as offline mail.

    There is a mariad of reasons why I like BBSes:
    - Nostalgia
    - Obsurity
    - Community

    I've connected to BBSes back in the mid-90's to download softare from a local computer shop that sold Atari ST software and hardware. They were primarily an IBM-compatible shop, but they were into Atari as well. So, I would have downloaded games and applications from them a lot for the Atari ST computer that was in my room. I didn't do door games or messaging at all.

    Now-a-days, I love the messaging aspect of it. Every now and then, I will play a game or download something once in a blue moon; but it's mostly messaging.

    While there are web interfaces to some BBSes, I just love the fact that I can Telnet into a BBS and actuslly have meaningful conversations with actual people. I don't know the technology behind DOVE-net or bullitens of the like, and I kind of like not knowing; it's keeping the appeal of BBSes.

    There are a couple of BBSes that I go to frequently; and a third one that rarely connect to. So far, the two SysOps and one Co-SysOp have been super friendly people and it just feels like they are personable people, unlike what you'll get on Twitter or (ugh, must I mention this one?) Facebook.


    Overall, I am pretty happy to visit the two regular BBSes that I go to and post a message here and there. :)
