Recently I saw that there is an fTelnet available for Android. If you go to http://ftelnet.ca in your web browser, there's a link that says "Get it on Google Play". I think it's in testing right now, but you can sign up to be tester. It actually renders BBS ANSI fairly well.
So, using fTelnet now, and not a fan of it on the Android phone. The keyboard nor the screen itself fits very well; might work better with tablet instead.
On the phone, there is a lot of scrolling required to do simple tasks like writing messages, regardless of the phone's orientation. Another issue is that the keyboard is not as responsive as the native Android keyboard (personally use the Hacker's Keyboard).
One thing it does have it going for it is the fact that it does render extended ACSII characters correctly.
So far, I will just stick with ConnectBot until fTelnet can make it easier to use on a phone.
