Or maybe world war III will wipe us all out before anyone has the chance to permanantly shut the phone system off :) BOOM! *dies and reincarnates in an alternate universe where BBS's are still popular* [0m
i had a dialup -> telnet redirector setup for many years.
1 guy used it.
sometimes being the last is not worth it. i encourage you to put your efforts in something more productive.
use it. but now that it goes straight to the BBS I get more use than I expected, and most of the users are hams, so "outcomes may differ". if the pots line is free, or very low cost to keep up *why not* it's just another way someone can access the system, and amazing enough, there are *still* people out there that DO NOT have internet access.

Its all in perspective and what you offer, my pots line CAME with the
DSL, it HAD to be installed anyway and does not have outgoing calling, only incoming, and it's free, and otherwise I don't use it. as I
explained in another message when I had it setup for the gateway
service, no one would use it. but now that it goes straight to the BBS

I was going to go down the POTS route, as I currently have a free POTS line that's doing nothing other than collecting telemarketing calls (which go to an answering machine ;) ). However, the POTS line has a limited life, as I
So, provided there's no issues with packet loss or jitter, it should work as well as a POTS line for modems.
Basically an Audio Codec for voice networks. uLaw (or really, muLaw, it's a greek character that looks like a u) is used in standard POTS lines.
