  • MOD/S3M/XM tracker files -> file_diz

    Does anybody have a utility that will let me extract a file_id.diz from MOD/S3M/XM/IT/etc mod files?

    If not, I'm sure I could write one, but I'm lazy.

    I didn't know that file_id.diz could be stored in MOD/S3M/XM files. I knew that some formats could store plain text messages (outside of sample and instrument [XM/IT] names).

    You can't store it back within the mod file, I planned on making a file_id.diz and packing it with the file so the BBS could use the song title as the description.

    I found one program that appears to not be in English (mp3desc). Upon
    looking into it last night, the file specifications for tracker files aren't complex, so I'll write a utility myself.

    Pretty much what I did too, but Ican't find the shell script any longer.

    I think I just used it to add the files to the BBS with a description rather than creating a file_id.diz and then archiving the two together.

    Sure, I *could* do that but um... that'd be... easier, more effective, and already have utilities out there for exactly that purpose. What's the fun in that?
