    Thanks. I think most folks were blaming the Chinese for that one, so I was real curious if it was true or not. :)

    Yes it was aliens, russians, chineses :-D

    At the end it was just some geeks wanted to DDOS other minecraft players.

    Wow, That's insane that those A-holes could cause so much trouble over a dumb game like minecraft.
    the Mirai was hitting my BBS alot for a while, have'nt seen it in the logs for quite awhile now though.

    the Mirai was hitting my BBS alot for a while, have'nt seen it in the logs for quite awhile now though.

    For most people the problem was that your devices ( surveillance camera others unsecured internet-of-things ) where part of the botnet and using your bandwidth to perform attach without your knowledge.

    Some of theses device use dump root account like user: admin pass: root . I hear that with some of theses devices you can't even change them and they are running linux so with some simple script they can be used for this purpose.

    of some sort. :D

    Actually, if what you say is true re: minecraft, that is pretty funny that
    they would go to such great lengths to do that. Good minds being wasted.

    Yes I realize they were using Iot devices, the Mirai was also hitting certain types of routers and were trying to attack our BBS's
    They could'nt really do anything to our BBS's it was just annoying.

    DDOS attacks were hitting my VPS a couple of years ago and kept eatting all my bandwidth to where MY VPS would shut my server down, I figured out the fix though all I had to do is invoke Ubuntu's Firwall and close all ports except the ones I needed and the DDOS attacks stoped.
    my Home router actually has DDOS protection as well as several other protections.
    and DDOS attacks would actually kick my game servers offline UFW Ubuntu's firewall fixed that as well.
