I didn't start BBSing until the early 90s, after I moved to the city. Slow V>modem speeds and high LD charges would have made using BBSs prohibitively V>expensive, let alone running one out of town.
I ended up finding a niche in the early 90s, as one of the broadest messaging V>BBSs in the city, possibly the country. We eventually imported several nets

I started accessing BBSing in the mid 1980's...then started my own on
a Radio Shack TRS-80 Model 100 laptop in December, 1990 -- and went to
an IBM system in May, 1992...when The Thunderbolt BBS came online.
At one time, there were at least a dozen BBS's in Little Rock...my
BBS, and one other BBS (both running Synchronet) are the only 2 BBS's
that are left in Arkansas.

I added a bulletin online on the "long gone BBS's" in the state...thinking back, it brought back some memories.
I would have used BBSs earlier, if I had the opportunity. I had read about V>them for years, and loved the concept.
Melbourne had dozens upon dozens. The city had 4 nets in Fidonet, noe there V>appears to be only one which covers a _much_ larger geographic area.
Well, I've resurrected my systems in name, though I'll probably never get bac V>the breadth of messaging we used to have.

What I liked were the monthly face to face meetings of users and
Sysops at local restaurants. You got to put names to faces, etc. At one meeting (I'd say 25 years ago), this Sysop had a brand new laptop computer, and as he took it out of its case, and opened it up, all conversation in the meeting room STOPPED -- and ell eyes GRAVITATED
toward the new laptop!! <G>
I had thought a few times about shutting it down, but never
completely did.

Can we start with the politicians??!! :P

where up already and I woudln't have filled a gap. Was already using PF>En> CompuServe ( 70745,1142 ) so I was less attracted to look out for bbses,
75300,1375. Isn't it funny how those IDs stick in your head? I worked for a PF>company with a support forum on Compuserve, so we got 3 unmetered accounts. PF>was a Netware admin at the time and all of Novell's support was on CIS back PF>then...

Oh yeah !
But it's like a train wreck, you can't stop watching.
Now he's suing Twitter, probably a last ditch effort to get bought or to close with some money in his pocket.

I think I hear sometime Leo Laporte say his from time to time on his network. It got really in our heads. Usernames? you where a number :-)

I'm the same way. Too young to have BBS'd originally. I came up with message boards, but those are a thing of the past now too. I had a long running message board that I still followed (from 2006 or so) that shut down last year finally. It was just a small group of guys who
transitioned to Discord. Not quite the same feel! I feel like I grew up
at the wrong time, just ten years too late, to get in on the ground
floor of the pre-internet days.
i dont think people can confuse TWIT with twitter because they're two entirely different things. i know he's just trying to get a buck, though.

BBSs were a LOT of fun in the early 1990s. Still are today, though it's a pity messaging hasn't come back. Still a nicer medium for reading messages than the modern stuff.

Absolutely true... I thought in this modern era I check the options I
have for running BBS and found reading old style messages relaxing...

posted name and address with a request for donations. It paid the phone bill.
Sure is! :) New messages on forums and even Facebook are like "Oh shit, not V>another one to wade through!". On a BBS, it's "Oh goody, new mail!". :D

With the sheer number of podcasts out there now-days, The stuff Leo has accidentally broadcast is tame.

Like pictures of his dick ? He actually did that.
Was explaining the new photo apps for the mac and opened it up. Let's
say that windows got closed fast.

I kinda stopped paying attention to him 5+ years ago, that was when the "dirty text messages to his producer" thing was the big scandal.
I'm kinda glad I did, now.

What I watch is not for him, like macbreak, it's for the other hosts.
I used to listen to "This week in Radio Tech", but it was cancelled in 2012.
Yes shows are getting axe one by one.
It's like highlander, there can be only one :-)
just sad because they don't allays been kept alive by former host.
Like that the GizWiz went independent. I'm sure they doing better like that.
