Tony,
I would have used BBSs earlier, if I had the opportunity. I had read about V>them for years, and loved the concept.
What I liked were the monthly face to face meetings of users and
Sysops at local restaurants. You got to put names to faces, etc. At one
meeting (I'd say 25 years ago), this Sysop had a brand new laptop
computer, and as he took it out of its case, and opened it up, all
conversation in the meeting room STOPPED -- and ell eyes GRAVITATED
toward the new laptop!! <G>
Melbourne had dozens upon dozens. The city had 4 nets in Fidonet, noe there V>appears to be only one which covers a _much_ larger geographic area.
The bulletin I created on the BBS was from data from my personal
memories, and a long gone FIDONet nodelist for the Little Rock area
FIDONet (Net 3821). Every BBS in that bulletin shut down long ago...and
the Sysops either moved away, or have died.
Well, I've resurrected my systems in name, though I'll probably never get bac V>the breadth of messaging we used to have.
I had thought a few times about shutting it down, but never completely
did.
... Earth is 98% full. Please delete anyone you can.
Can we start with the politicians??!! :P
That's like the skit on The Burns And Allen Show...where the late
George Burns, and his late wife, Gracie Allen, were on there...and in
the episode, Gracie is talking to an agent from the Internal Revenue
Service (more appropriately...THEIRS...which is how they think of the
money <G>). Anyway, Gracie asked the I.R.S. agent if members of the U.S. Congress could be considered as "dependents". When the I.R.S. agent said
"Yes, they can"...Gracie asked "Can we deduct them??!!". The look on
both the I.R.S. agent's face...and George Burns' face...was priceless!!
