a lot of my friends just BARELY use facebook. i continue to use it to argue with people and just check on my local news easier.

Actually... the reason I started 'my' BBS now is because of that... My family and friends are still on Facebook but 2 close friends who also are computer nerds closed their account on Facebook....

I still have it for my family and friends for using Messenger, but I have to say, even now in Messenger I see ads... driving me nuts... Don't like to loose time because of ads...

Yea, I agree with you: it doesn't seem like Facebook is on that spiral.

Sounds like a bit of a 'market correction' for them. I'm sure once the parents start flooding Instagram or whatever the hot sexy SM flavor of the month is, the kids will be migrating away from that also.

I think it's probably just normal popularity cycles. Remember, Friendster and MySpace and LiveJournal and whatnot were really popular for a while, too, and then something new came along. The main difference is that Facebook has created an infrastructure that uses Facebook as a platform. You can login to sites using just your Facebook credentials, complete transactions, etc. So it makes it a little tougher to actually kill than, like, Friendster.

Google and other sites have done that too though. You can log into some sites using your Google credentials, and many people have a Google account due to using Gmail or an Android phone, etc.

i liked friendster. it was innocent. then myspace was a friendster clone that had ads. it was created by spammers.

i know there is fb login, but there is also google login now. i have seen some deminished fb login in websites. i would never login to a site with fb because i dont want any funny shit going on in my account.

I gotta admit, I'm kinda found of logging in using Facebook, rather than having to remember any of my millions of passwords for various accounts....

Yeah, Google does the same, and I've got my gmail account for the same

reason, my first android phone required it...

Yeah, my Android has the same thing...but I use the Dashlane
Password Manage app for my browser...as it enters my passwords
automatically.

There have been some sites that only allowed Facebook or other social network logins, and I've not used them - that's another way FB keeps you locked in - if you can't get to your streaming music account or other web sites without Facebook you'll keep the account going.

I've started using Keepass on my phone and on my desktop PC. I save the file on Google Drive, and can access the same database on either platform.

I don't have to worry about someone else having key escrow, I can generate secure, unique passwords for each site, and I don't need to rely on Facebook being available, or need to keep my Facebook account around to log in.
