Does anyone here like photography? I occasionally like taking photos and would consider myself a fairly amateur at it, but as a hobby I've gotten into photography a bit. A couple years ago, I was looking to see what wide-angle lenses were available with a large aperture, and one that I had found was the Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8. I thought its price was a little steep at the time, but I have seen some overall very good reviews for it, and it seems to be a fairly unique lens, so recently I decided to buy one for use with my camera (a Nikon D7200). I found a used one on eBay in good condition for a bit less than the new price, and it arrived yesterday. I took several photos with it, and I think I got some good results with the lens. The wide aperature allows a good bokeh effect, which I think would be good for taking photos of people, though I was mainly interested in using the lens for landscape/scenery photorgraphy and low-light photography. I'm looking forward to taking more photos with it.

One downside to this Sigma lens is that it's a bit bigger and heavier than I might expect for the kind of lens it is, but I suppose that's not a huge deal if I can get good quality pictures with it. It's actually heavier than the Nikon 18-140mm f/3.5-5.6 lens that came with my D7200.

Is the Nikon D7200 an aps-c sensor camera? There's a brand out called Yongnuo that make copies of the Canon Prime lenses in Canon and Nikon mount.

I shot for years on 35mm film with a plain old 50 f/1.8 lens. Wonderful bokeh, makes for a light kit, and those 50mm prime lenses, by the nature of their simplicity have wonderful optics. Not having a zoom makes you spend more time composing.

A 35 f/2 lens would approximate a 50mm lens on APS-c, might be a good choice for a creative lens.

My Canon 28-105 lens has a problem where the AF doesn't work when it's zoomed out, I might use that as an excuse to buy the Canon mount 35/2 lens.

Yes, it's an APS-C sensor camera. I wonder how good those Yongnuo lenses are.. I've heard Nikon and Canon both make good lenses. A while ago I bought a couple of Nikon prime lenses for my D7200 (35mm f/1.8 and 50mm f/1.4) that I think are both good. I thought the Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 should be able to potentially replace both of those.

There's a youtube channel called DigitalRev TV; I like their reviews. If I recall, they liked the Yongnuos.
