I was born on February 13, 1978 in a small town in Northern Wisconsin. At the same time, about 250 miles from where I was (as the crow flies), Ward Christensen and Randy Seuss were frantically working on the first Bulletin Board System, CBBS, which was put online 3 days later on the 16th.

So, Happy birthday to the BBS. 41 years later you're considered "ancient," "outdated," and "only around for nostalgic purposes", just like me!

Happy belated! I turned 46 back on the 4th, but I'm too lazy to search for any cool computer-related history that happened on my birthdate ;)

Which small Northern Wisconsin town, if you don't mind my asking?

I visted N Wisconsin a couple of years ago, but did not manage to travel through there. I thought it was pretty country overall, and was a nice
place to be while it was 90F+ back home. :)

Northern Wisconsin is a pretty big place. Most people consider "Up North" anywhere north of State Highway 29, which starts just north of Green Bay and bisects the state, heading towards Minneapolis.

I have a cottage on a lake north of Antigo that I spend a lot of time at in the summer (about 110 miles from where I live in Appleton), and a buddy who lives way up in the northwest corner of the state, which is about 250 miles from where I live, and 15 miles from my cottage.

As I said, big area. Full of lakes. lots of fishing to be done! :)

I was in mostly the "very North." I spent a couple of nights in Ashland
before heading to Duluth and on to Canada. Took a cruise around the Apostle Islands, and saw the largest waterfall in Wisconsin... Big Manitou at
Pattison SP... and Copper Falls. Drove all along the Lake Superior
    shoreline. I love that lake.

Ok, yeah, you were up by where my buddy lives (on Lac Court Oreilles, pronnounced "la-coo-da-ray"). I'm heading up there again next weekend for the last few days of Northern Pike fishing season.

I've been seriously considering buying property on Lake Superior at some point, but that lake terrifies me when it gets stormy.

I have seen her and Huron both get pretty upset. Probably more so Huron.
I was crossing the mouth of Georgian Bay (between Manitoulin and Tobermory)
on a ferry. It was calm when we first shoved off, but that changed quickly.

By the time we got near landing, the waves were being thrown way up on the rocks on the nearby islands. I spent the rest of the day checking out lighthouses along the bayside of the peninsula. Boy, it was really weird
to see the water so churned up on a very beautiful, sunny day.

It was a very strong low pressure system without much in the way of
anything resembling a storm... just a lot of wind!

I have seen footage of Superior getting pretty violent during the Winter.

I love both of those lakes.

There are songs about ships that have gone down in Superior. The most famous being The Edmund Fitzgerald. That lake will go from beautiful to "I AM GOING TO EAT YOU, YOUR CHILDREN, YOUR CHILDREN'S CHILDREN AND THEIR CHILDREN TOO!" in 20 minutes.

I am well aware of that. Superior is known as the lake that does not give
up her dead. As long as I am not out on it, it does not scare me that
much. I wouldn't not want a house right on the shore, either. :D
