Coke Zero for me is indistinguishable to regular coke. I beleive that canadian coca-cola don’t use corn syrup, but i’m not sure it’s the case anymore. It’s not like it’s illegal in Canada.

I've generally tried to avoid aspartame (used in many diet sodas) for a long time. Recently I've found a couple of 0-calerie sodas that use Stevia instead (Stevia is supposed to be all-natural, since it's a plant extract, so supposedly it should be safer to consume). Zevia and Blue Sky are brands that make soda with stevia. They don't taste exactly like regular soda, but I still feel better drinking something with stevia rather than aspartame. I've heard of versions of Coke and Pepsi that use stevia too.

I love Blue Sky Cola! It's a rare treat for me to have these days because it's not something that is readily available here in South Carolina. It's about the only kind of cola I can drink that doesn't leave me sick.

I just discovered Blu Sky a few weeks ago. I was going to buy some Zevia from the store, but they didn't have any, and they had Blue Sky instead. It looks like Blue Sky uses stevia for the sweetener, like Zevia, but I think I like Blue Sky's 'cola' flavor better than Zevia's cola flavor.

I went from a 2-liter a day Diet Coke/Diet Mt. Dew habit at work (plus more at home, in the car, etc) down to enjoying fresh brewed ice tea at work and water. It took about two weeks to adjust, but now I really don't miss it at all.

I like sweetened iced tea (not adding sweetener after the fact, but when the sweetener is added when it's still hot so it can blend in well). I can drink unsweetened iced tea, but usually I don't really like it since it can be bitter. And if sweetened with sugar, I'm not sure if it's much better than soda. Some time I'd like to try using Stevia to sweeten tea and see how it tastes.

Certainly possible, though I'd like to see some studies on this. I don't drink enough of the stuff to worry, it's a rare treat for me. I rarely drink any sodas, the sugar content of the standard ones is too high for me these days (I'm used to virtually no added sugar now). Tend to prefer water. :)

Yeah I hardly drink soda and if I do, it's diet soda. Water is my main drink, though I do enjoy the odd tea or coffee too. :) Alcohol is also a rarity for me. :)

I find that the more pointlessly stressed I am, the more fizzy drinks I
take down. At work I can easily polish off about 4L of the crap, but since I've been at home on the regular and out of that situation.

It's a coffee in the morning with a light and very french viennoiserie,
water or juice of some kind for the rest of the day and maybe a few glasses
of coke zero here and there if I'm really not feeling the attitude of
whatever server I'm working on.

If I'm driving, I'll err towards the soft drinks rather than water as I
tend to stop every 150kms or so, which if you know parisien traffic could
be something like 4 hours. And that's mainly to smoke, since I don't take autoroutes all the toilets are non existant on the RNs.

Since I'm in the EU we have rather stricter food / drink laws, I believe
the aspartame thing was debunked some time ago, but all the same the
mixture for coke in general is really different on this side of the ocean
and you can certainly taste it if you're used to one version or the other.

There is some aspartame but it's fairly low going by the ingredients list
(it's at the end). Although with pepsi max I think it's a bit different,
as it tends to have a laxative effect which is what you get from too much artifical sweeteners.

We just got back from our annual trek to Mexico, and down there Coke is made differently -- for one, with real sugar. We always enjoy a bottle or two while down there as it does really taste good. It's a "treat" and one well worth it!

That's probably true. Companies have different products in different countries too, and I remember one soda that Coke had that was popular in Germany was a mixture of Coke and Orange Soda (it was called "Mezzo Mix"). I also remember seeing paprika-flavored Pringles there, which I haven't seen in the US.

I found out that Hershey's Daerk Chocolate was brought to market originally for China, because Hersheys regular was too sugary and sweet for their tastes.

Interesting.. I do like dark chocolate sometimes (as well as regular milk chocolate).

That's cool. I have heard of Mexican Coke being popular in at least some places in the US, and I've even seen stores near me that sell Mexican Coke (particularly in areas with a higher hispanic/Mexican population).

I thought Coke had a formula they started selling in the US in recent years with real sugar though.. I know Pepsi does. It seemed to start with Pepsi Throwback (in 2009?), and now Pepsi has "Pepsi with Real Sugar". I remember Dr. Pepper having a "Dr. Pepper Heritage" with real sugar for a while several years ago, but I don't think they make that anymore.

Pineapple soda does sound good.

Walmart used to sell a Sindel apple soda that was just apple juice, real sugar and carbonated water, in a glass bottle.

I went back a few years later and it came in a plastic bottle with high-fructose corn syrup.

In both directions - being able to post as well as view. It's annoying that I can look at an ANSI message in Multimail using the View function, but I can't make a legible quote in a reply.

I think MultiMail is still being maintained, but if people are using older offline readers that are no longer being maintained, they won't be able to use the voting features.

Synchronet is the only BBS software I know of that has implemented a voting feature, so it's not really a BBS industry standard, but I'm not sure if that would be an issue.. Perhaps the Synchronet implementation can become a standard for BBS messagebases and offline readers.

Well, obviously, we can't do anything about abandonware. :(

DM is pretty good with documenting his extensions, so it shouldn't be too hard to make it a de-facto standard for modern software.

Does WWIV now support QWK networking? It's been quite a while since I last looked at that code. Back in the late 80s and 90s that is the system I ran. WWIVnet and WWIVlink - wonder what ever happened to those networks?

Oh I am very familiar with WWIV. I started using it back at v3.14c when it was written in Pascal. Back during hte late 80s and 90s St. Louis was a big WWIV community. WWIVlink, the alternative to WWIVnet, started here as well. I remember the WWIV wars back in those days - you were either a WWIVnet or a WWIVlink person, but not both!

I see WWIV is now open source - which is great. I may have to take a look at it again.

When Wozniak showed his manager the Apple computer prototype he was working on, his manager said something along the lines of "Why would anyone want a computer at home?"

i'm not sure if anybody ever said that. it's been attributed to several guys. remember that back then a computer was much larger and less useful.

I recall reading an article by cyberpunk pioneer William Gibson where he menti oned his first computer of his own was a Mac. He said he bought it because
he was missing out on technology his fictional worlds were based on. Soon after he turned it on, he realised it was no more magical than the old typewriter he had been using. While BBS's existed well before the internet, they were still limited to the availability of local dialup numbers. Connecting though long distance numbers got expensive real fast.

I guess the point I'm making is a PC out of the box is limited to what is installed on it, and the promise of utility is reliant on the capabilities of programmers and external communication resources
