Sorry I was gone for a few... I had to switch my cable over to a bigger pipe so my kid wouldn't get bad ping times and packet loss while playing Fortnite.

uuuuuugh.... What's funny is we went to 500up / 500down plan with Frontier and i get awesome times now. But he still gets 20-40ms pings from his Xbox1 to the fortnite servers and he claims none of his "friends" do.

I tried explaining to him that it probably has more to do with us being in Florida and the location of the servers but he claims his florida friends get <10ms times with standard residential and none of them have the 500/500 plan, and are using Spectrum which i don't buy into.

Never friggin satisfied. If they wouldn't have built the monitor into the xbox to see your ping/packet loss he wouldn't even know and he'd be happy.

Anyways took me a while to hook everything back up, re-open and forward ports etc... And the garage PC where my bbs runs was the last for me to reconfigure.

I'm sure you've all thoroughly enjoyed reading this ramble.

Do me a favor- i have 0 users on my BBS.... It's been up for a while.

It's possible, it all depends upon how Frontier routes their network.

Let's say your neighbor has Spectum and gets 10ms pings, and you're getting 30ms pings to the same server.

It's possible your data takes a different physical path than Spectrum's. I don't know where in Floriday you live, but if, say, the Fortnite server was in Atlanta, and Spectrum routed the data directly there, where Frontier bounced it down to Orlando, then back up to Atlanta, that could explain some of the difference.

I'd suggested doing a traceroute or mtr to the endpoint, it will give you a little more insight on the paths your connection takes.

i'm on spectrum and now it says i have ~95Mbps[almost 10MB per second download] and upload is 11.4Mbps [around 1MB per second upload]

Yeah, I've seen downloads around 5-6 megabytes per second. Theoretically I have the same upload speed too.

i am frozen at 45/month and then it goes to 65 after a year.

Yeah I went through all that with him already in an effort to prove to him, and to explain to him, how things actually work. Concepts like ping and tracert mean nothing to him unfortunately. All that matters is what he sees on the games output which i wish they never exposed.

It was almost 200 with the 50/50

This is a 12mo offer then price goes up but they said if I call before the 12 months you can extend it another 12 if you just ask. we'll see.

The true speeds i am getting are phenomenal.

Yeah, I think those who don't know the terminology could think they're getting more than they are. I've heard people say "megabytes" when they mean megabits for their internet speed. But it seems they've always shown their speed in megabits.. Those who know the difference know what it means.

They're not purposely inflating the numbers, Network speeds are measured in bits per second. There are 8 bits in a byte, so if you want to know your maximum MB speed, divide your maximum mbps by 8.

For example, 50 / 8 = 6.25MB/sec
