I don't think there's any "legal requirement" for anybody to
supply anybody with electricity.

How can that even be legal, to say nothing of my ethical?

It's intended to prevent the start of killer wildfires, and has
nothing to do with either legality or ethics.

So far they've pushed back the time, though I got a text from P.G.&E.
saying my power was off or soon would be a few minutes ago. I'm down in
the valley at work right now. Winds do not seem to be as bad as they were saying they would be. I guess we'll see.......

1. They're getting their asses sued for improperly maintaining their infrastructure and being the cause for fires that burned entire towns down, along with loss of life and the cost to the state to fight the fires. This
was after blowing up a neighborhood with a poorly-maintained gas line.

3. I have to wonder if there's some internal sociopathy at PG&E that sees
this as retaliation for the lawsuits. Sue us? Fine. Next time you'll pay the price for our substandard maintenance - not our shareholders!

Spoiled food, lost productivity, lost tax dollars for schools - there will
be a huge cost. But, PG&E shareholders won't be affected.

Back in the Enron crisis, PG&E declared bankkrupcy, claiming insolvency.
Some digging revealed a $5B cash transfer to PGE Corp, the parent company. Woops!

Sad that our state would rather pay off companies and give it to their executives than to focus on improving infrasturcture so we do not need

Yes it's legal to do so. Until about 15 years ago I grew up in CA and lived in the San Diego , Bay Area and the Sacramento Area I remember the rolling black outs in the county due to high demand on energy back in 2000-2002. I lived in the east county of San Diego durring the 2003 fires. my dad and step mom literly almost did not get out alive they were in a rural area near the casino in Alpine. Up were they lived the road was closed off were we lived and when he arrived at our home the firefighters already there they only let him go up to the house when they found out that my stepmom was still at home. at that time the house across the street was already on fire. We were blessed the fire jumped our small property and from there it went up the street taking most of the home with it. If i remember right someone did not make it out that lived up the street. They litterly drove though smoke and flame to get out. I will never forget it. I was staying at my grandparents in Santee about 20-25 mins from alpine and it was raining hot ash down hours before my dad and stepmom were evacuated and we ended up being evacuated from that area and the fire ended up comming right down the hill and was stoped before it reached all the homes. I remember at noon it was like twilight in most of the county from all the smoke. I lived in PA now and was a firefighter for over 10 years util i became sick and know the hazards of the wires being down. with the Santa anna winds in CA and the soil being what it is it's a disaster waiting to happen and they are trying to save lives but i get it sucks for thoughs that are not in danger at that secound. Sorry if i went a bit off topic but it brings up a lot of memories....
