Many online forums are moderated, which includes possibly banning people who spread hate speech and drama like this guy is doing. I suppose we could all add him to our twit list or ignore him though.

I feel this guy has crossed the line and should be held accountable. Putting him on my twitlist does nothing to hold him accountable. He should be banned even if it's temporary to give him time to think about what he said. It will also give him time to think about whether he has the ability to control himself in a public forum. Now would be a good time to setup some type of voting booth.

Synchronet does have the ability to post a poll for voting. I wrote a voting booth door for Synchronet too, but you can vote in the stock Synchronet reader as well.

Does the sbbs twit filter work on messages from other bbses? Seems like I tried that once and it did not work, but that may have been on an FTN-style network and not a qwk one like dove. And it was a long time ago, either

It works on any message being tossed into the bases, doesn't matter where it comes from. I've twitted QWK users and FTN users over the years, it worked
for both.

Free speech generally applies to government entities. Privately-run businesses and entities like a BBS or message forum can have moderators or other ways to filter out crap. Synchronet has a twit list for a reason. Some of us would rather not put up with childish nonsense, even in the name of "free speech". And there's a line between free speech and harassment.

true, but on my BBS I allow idiots like him to a point, I try not to ban unless they there is no other option.
I run a few game servers and one kid kept on for months before I finally ip banned him, he then used a VPN so banning him was useless, best way to deal with our problem child is to not mention him and dont respond to him, all he want's is attention if we don't give him that he will stop eventually.

... When I was a little kid, we had a quicksand box. I was an only child eventually.
