Setup thunderbird against eternal-september to check out the
alt.bbs.* and a couple other groups lately... seems like other
than synchronet and mystic, it's all spam...
While not entirely surprising, somewhat disappointing.

Yes, it's disappointing, but been that way for years now. I used
to use Usenet a lot, and still do some, but it's dropped off
dramatically. I think some of the "binaries" groups are still
active, but I don't use them myself.

And you're welcome to suggest a better resource (free) for text usenet groups.

I had a soft spot for the ba.* hierarchy, alt.bbs, and comp.dcom
- but haven't read a post there in a while. It might be time to
disconnect usenet from my BBS. I think the only group I use now
is alt.bbs.ads.

Most people that are "savoy" know to stay off bittorrent, it's hella risky

you're not going to get anything good that's free.
there's one you buy a few gigs and you just use it for text and it lasts for a long long time.

Most people that are savvy use a seedbox in the netherlands for torrent use.
