• Cmd Gopher browser

From R.F.R.@VERT/CAVEBBS to All on Thu Apr 23 10:07:00 2020
    Hi!

I was wondering if anyone knows about a gopher client which I could run from the windows comman prompt?
Something like https://github.com/solderpunk/VF-1 but a little less...
    python.
Kind of like Lynx works on Linux/Unix systems.
I don't have a real use for it, I just think it would be kind of neat.
    Any ideas/pointers?
    Thx!

    RFR

Lynx for Linux supports Gopher so the Windows version should do also if it
    runs in console mode.

Agreed. Lynx supports Gopher. You ought to join the lynx user listserv.

Speaking of gopher, I saw a 'gopher' option over on diskshop but anytime I've tried it the window goes black and I get timed out, then I can't log back in. I reported it to sysop. So I'm not sure if he made a door out of lynx or what. But it's there.

No, but for what it's worth I wrote one for Synchronet:

    http://cvs.synchro.net/cgi-bin/viewcvs.cgi/xtrn/go-for/

There are a couple of bugs kicking around (I don't remember, something about going backward and forward in the history stack) but it gets the job done.

Hi! Sadly it doesn't. As least as far as modern versions of WIndows are concerned. It was actually the first place I looked, as I got some history
    with Lynx.
    Thanks, tho =)

Nice! I'll check those out this evening. Though the ms store one doesn't seem to be for the cmd.
Thank you for giving me some pointers!

If you're running DOSBOX, there's a Gopher for Wattcp that works pretty
    well.

    Did you actually try it?

    ftp://ftp.invisible-island.net/lynx/current/lynx-cs-setup.exe

Didn't bother with SSL dlls and the like.

    cd "\program files (x86)\Lynx - Web Browser"

    lynx gopher://endofthelinebbs.com

Gopher Menu (p1 of 2)→ Gopher Menu (DIR) Local (DIR) AdventureNet (DIR) Agoranet (DIR) AmigaNet
    ..
    ..

So yeah, it works fine, if you bother to try it.
