It still seems weird to me when I see a house without at least a laptop.

These days my parents and I all have laptops and no desktops. I can still remember though when there was one desktop in the computer room in my old house when I was a kid and we had no laptops and we did all of our internet browsing from the family computer.

My company is all laptops. No slouches, they, we've all got Lenovo
Yoga convertibles or Thinkpad T480 laptops.

My team is all developers and devops people, and virtually everyone
has their laptop on their home LAN and remote into it from a desktop.
With the right settings you can share video and sound inputs and use
your headset and video camera with the laptop and run video calls
over RDP. I swear by it - I like having a clean desk. :)

I have a Desktop, Laptop, 2 thin client PC's that run various servers and 2 Raspberry Pi's PI2 and PI3
then I also have 2 Linux VPS's.

We had a discussion about this earlier on in the year. I don't really know anyone who uses desktop PCs anymore within their homes other than one close friend who is a PC gamer and has a monster rig. Most of the people I know do have laptops but they don't really use them much instead opting for their smart phones and tablets. I think smart phones are pretty much all you need if you're a non-techie consumer type. They're great for web-browsing, video playback, podcasts, social media, e-mails and audio/video conferencing.

I've taken to an old laptop that I maxxed the memory on, and put Proxox on
it. Virtualization with remote desktop tools, backup and a web GUI is nice, and it takes a fraction of the power keeping old desktops around took.

With Proxmox and a router running DD-WRT and Entware apps, I've got a tidy little home lab setup. I still want a pi, though. :)

I see the attraction to single board computers, I have no requirement to own one myself but they do appear to be nice little space savers. I haven't had a full blown tower PC since 2005. I replaced my main PC back then with a laptop and have never looked back since. I am pretty much in the thrall of mobile devices such as my iPhone 12 Mini which is probably my main machine... I also spend some time on my iPad Mini 5 which does a great job of all the online tasks I have to carry out. I still BBS on an '84 Macintosh but it exists purely for nostalgia purposes and also serves as a nice centerpiece for my study.
