    What is the shelf life on Ammunition? Is there a shelf life. When My Dad passed away he had a bunch of deer shot, bird shot and a couple of other sizes he had on his shelf. How long is that good for? Is there a period of time that goes by that it is just not worth using?

    if it is commercial and kept in a cool dry place i heard it can still be viable for over 10 years.


    also gunpowder decays over time due to age/moisture/temp fluctuations.

    Thanks! I think it is about 7 years old. I would think probably still useable, but maybe not dependable.. Appreciate it!

    I've had some 9 mm ammo for over 10 years now and Labor Day weekend the family and I used some of it up. No problems!!!

    Also, it depends on the environment in which the ammo is stored. Ammo that
    is stored in a dry semi-controlled environment usually has no problems.
    Also, if you have ammo that is still sealed, you should be good to go!

    I guess I better go shoot some off and see how it does then. I also better start stocking up on some new stuff then too..
