  • Jews vs. Isreal

    I am curious where the whole notion that it was only Jews that crossed the river, and there will be 144,000 Jews standing at the end times; specifically the notion/belief in Christianity.

    From what I have read and understood, it's Israel in both cases. From what I uderstand, all Jews are decended from Isreal, but not all of the Israeli descent are Jews.

    I believe it was Solomon's son and his father's right-and-man that cause the split between Israel and Judah. After Israel changed the laws, they where the first to be disbursed and lost their identity as Israel; then it was Judah that got disbirsed afterwards, but retained their identity.

    I, also, thought that the word "Jew" was from the word, "Judea", and derived from "Judah" (the remaining Israeli tribe after the split that [1] retain their identity and [2] formed the nation Judah).

    So, help me out here: where did idea that Israel and Jew is interchangable?

    I wish I had more info on this subject. Jews are often good at preparedness; being able to survive, avoiding sticky situations, but I have not heard about any of this.

    I am not sure but am guessing it is more of a political thing than a
    religious or historical one.

    Could be. I was, also, thinking that it might be an educational thing as well.

    Either way, just not sure where it came from... :/

    You probably know all this, but I'll throw this in:

    Possibility #1
    After WW2, the survivors of the holocaust (presumably mostly jews) were relocated to Israel; dumped there, and coerced into overthrowing any Arabs who were squatting there. Instead of the angry arabs calling them "Jews with a few other relgions mixed in there.." they just call them "Jews."

    Possibility #2
    There's a city there called Jerusalem, which kinda sounds like "Jew-Rusalem." If someone tells a gringo they're from "Israel," then the gringo's brain will link that information up with 2 other queries: "He's from jew-rusalem - he's a jew."

    Hum, I was raised Catholic but now my spouse being Jewish I've changed over time. But I guess here in Montreal with the Jewish people I live with that are more progressive/secular and Jewish is Jewish, Israel is Israel.

    about 20% of Israel citizens are Muslims and yet they are Israeli.

    But we have family there. I think it has a right to exist.
