From Jason@VERT to All on Fri Nov 15 00:11:26 2013
So I'm running SCFG and Synchronet on CentOS 6, and I have everything working fine.. Now I telnet in from a MACBook. My issue is, I have no insert
button on my keyboard, and I have the wireless bluetooth apple keyboard and mouse. I can't use Insert to create new nodes or setup new forums and
    such.

I have checked with Apple, and unfortunately, with my setup, it's not possible for me to use the insert key to create new items in scfg. Also,
unfortunately, i have never needed the insert key except for with sync on my mac book.

Any ideas how i can use scfg to use another key except for insert? Or is there a mapping for mac that i can use to remap like CTRL-B to function as a
    insert or another character.

Hope someone can help me out. :)

    Thanks,
    Jason

I've never used a Mac, but I know in both Windows and Linux there's an accessibility program that has a fully functional keyboard. It's a
bit of a kludge, but it's something that can get you by until you
figure out how to set up some kind of macro or whatever.

I'm certain there's a version of that for Mac. I use it for if I'm
reading something very interesting and I need to step to another
room... my keyboard broke on my netbook long ago, and I hate lugging
around a full size keyboard. ;)

This reminds me... I don't know if there's a similar issue with this
on Mac or Windows, or if this "trick" will work, but on my Ubuntu
Linux if I'm in certain terminals pressing F1 will bring up an
internal Help instead of Help in SCFG (or whatever I'm in). I got
frustrated enough one day that in desperation I tried Alt, Ctrl,
Shift, and finally the Windows key. Windows+F1 did the trick.

I dunno if there's a lot of writeups about that on the net, but
figured I'd point it out in case anyone else ran into a problem with
their terminal grabbing a key you needed passed through.

cant you use a virtual popup keyboard app to insert the commands?

i run datastream bbs, and the former sysop used to use one of those because
he was extremely disabled due to muscular distrophy.

also get a real computer :D

Haha, so you mentioned that and here is what i did.. This is a very backwards way of doing this.. So i'm on my macbook, and i just happen to have my copy of VMWare Fusion 6 with Windows 8.1 loaded. Now from there i was able to turn on the "On-screen Keyboard" and telnet to the bbs and use the scfg door option to open scfg and then use the on-screen keyboard to hit the insert key...

Talk about a completely out of the way method just to hit 1 insert key.. haha!

You can run "scfg -id" to use the stdio interface which doesn't rely on any special keys.

i'm glad we have that feature because it's very useful for somethings.
it's also nice and quick when changing settings remotely.

one of the more frivolous things i did was put color codes in all my doorgame names.

You can just press ENTER on the blank line at the end of the list.
