Hi everyone,
Any one using Synchronet as their primary email client? I really like the idea of doing this, but some of the emails I've sent myself from Gmail look unreadable.

If you use a POP client on the BBS server, you can read the HTML mails OK.
I had a script called "Procmail Sanitizer" that I used to run on Unix that could sanitize any malicious attachments, tricky HTML in the email and
more. It could also strip all HTML from an email and leave you with text only.
I'd love something like that for Synchronet - I might seriously consider bouncing my home email to my BBS if I could.
I'm looking at the emails from within Synchronet itself under E) Read/Send E-mail > R) Read mail sent to you. The email shows both the text/plain version and the text/html version mixed into the same email making it hard to read. If I view the email in another client via pop3 I'm sure it'll
look okay but I'd love to keep all my email with in Synchronet if that's possible.

I think that happens because a lot of email clients these days are set to read HTML-formatted email. I'm not sure if there's an easy way around
that. If there was a way for Synchronet to filter out the HTML tags from emails, I'm not sure how.

Client? Or server? I use it as my email server for my BBS domain. Though I use Thunderbird as the client to read/write emails. I have multiple email addresses though, so it's nice to use one client to keep them all maintained in one place.

At one point, I played with setting up .forwards on all of my email
and using IMAP on Synchronet. It mostly worked, but I was a little
off-put by not being able to use SSL on Windows w/IMAP. Nowadays I
remote into the BBS box from work and run a mail client locally so
don't have to worry about sending passwords in cleartext.
well, i think it's a bit wierd to want to read your email via your telnet interface.
do you even have your bbs up all the time? arent you one of those guys who comes and goes all the time?
Not to mention the fact that you think that having
a BBS system online constantly makes your phallus larger than those of
your fellow sysops.
Would you believe it if I told you the only way my ISP does email is with plain text password? I'm seriously disappointed by that. So I use that as
my spam and "online signup" address, and keep my paid domain email and
gmail addresses a little more low-key.
i'm surprised they even OFFER email addresses anymore.

Even my PAID WEBHOST has an option to have google host your domain email!

Wait a sec, I didn't address that to you, did I? It's been a few days, but I'm pretty sure I flamed an asshole about that, and I don't think
you fall into that category. Heh.

doesnt google require you to pay for the google/apps email?
i have it for free because it's grandfathered in.
But why would it be weird to check email via command line? I can get to telnet from virtually any machine I'm on, regardless of speed, so having a command line app to check email is actually rather nice. Until just a few years ago when my home server died I had Alpine setup to check all of my accounts, and it was very nice having that as an option regardless of where I was at.
