    From Ryan D. Knutson@VERT to All on Fri Apr 17 18:27:31 2015
Hello! I'm Ryan Knutson, and I'm just setting up my BBS.

My question is why my mail doesn't want to go through. My ISP blocks port 25, so I tried to send mail with the Vertrauen mail relay. It connects fine, but then gives a '501 bad argument' error when it tries to send. Any help is greatly appreciated!

I believe he's got his system set up so that as long as your system has a DOVE-Net QWK ID via Vertrauen, you're golden to use SMTP relaying. Anybody feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, of course.

That's how the Wiki page states it. Did I set up the DOVE-Net QWK ID wrong then? I can login fine, and it is a dedicated account.

I should have been more specific. Rob *knowing* as in a QWK acct because he posted his message on VERT rather than his own system.

    OK.. 501 error....

    501
Another syntax error, not in the command but in its parameters or arguments.
In the majority of the times it's due to an invalid email address, but it can also be associated with connection problems (and again, an issue concerning your antivirus settings).

Send a debug mode log to DM. I'm sure he'll figure it out.

Hello! I'm Ryan Knutson, and I'm just setting up my BBS.

My question is why my mail doesn't want to go through. My ISP blocks port 25, so I tried to send mail with the Vertrauen mail relay.

Your ISP blocks outgoing port 25 or incoming port 25?

    It connects fine,
but then gives a '501 bad argument' error when it tries to send. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Here is the Mail Server log

If you enable more debug log output, we'll see exactly which SMTP request is being rejected. It looks like it's the argument to the SMTP AUTH request. I'd be curious to see exactly what that AUTH request looks like.
