    Just installed OS X El Capitan on my mac book pro, and now SyncTerms colors are all wrong, really wrong. I reinstalled syncterm with the latest version, and that didn't help. The program still functions fine, but the colors are all wrong, it's almost like a negitive. reds for blues, yellows for cyans, and so foruth. Any one else experenced this, and if so, how do I fix it. Thanks in advance.

    I'm running 10.11.1 El Capitan and it seems fine to me. This is an old iMac, though (c. 2008)

    I'm also on El Capitan, and I've had no trouble with SyncTerm. I'm a happy camper since Deuce fixed copy-and-paste.

    Is it possible you somehow turned on "Invert colors" in OS X's accessibility preference pane?

    Mine is a Mac Book Pro, 2010 (Late). Everything else is fine, but SyncTerm is way out of wack. Even when I call other systems, colors are all off. I'm using it, but it's driving me crazy.

    In that case all colors in every program would be off. I did check that however, and it's not checked. I'm using ftelnet now till I get an answer on how to fix it.

    Got it fixed for now, un hid all the hidden files, deleted everything syncterm, and re installed. It seems there is a problem with the SDL Fullscreen mode, and SDL Overlay, but everything else displays normal. So I'm back in business again and the colors are correct.

    Try taking it out of Overlay mode (ie: "normal" SDL).

    That's what I did, and it ok, but I really miss the SDL Overlay, as it was the perfect size for my mac. All other screen types work fine, it's just SDL Overlay that messes with the color. I wish there was a simple fix.

    It could be a driver issue, or some problem with video playback in general on that system (Overlay mode turns the output into a video).

    SyncTERM actually supports a number of overlay formats, and it's likely that a different one would work if it was used, but there's no way to control it that finely-grained... SyncTERM simply chooses the first one the driver says will work.

    There's a couple environment variables you can try setting that fiddle with how overlays work...
    SDL_VIDEO_YUV_DIRECT=1
    SDL_VIDEO_YUV_HWACCEL=0

    Try them separately and together... they may help.

    I understand. From what I'm reading, El Capitan has a lot of issues. I'm finding others also.

    the driver says will work.
    SDL_VIDEO_YUV_DIRECT=1
    SDL_VIDEO_YUV_HWACCEL=0

    OK, I'll give it a shot. If it works, I'll let you know. Thanks Deuce :)

    Windows? Linux?

    Delete the syncterm dir under your user directory in either OS, it will more than likely be hidden under windows, I cannot remember how they name the user dirs but that should fix it for you.

    even though syncterm is a dinky little terminal program, the author decided to put the config 'windows style'

    so look in users\ACCOUNTNAME\AppData\Roaming\SyncTERM

    get void tools' everything to search for syncterm.ini

    you should have realized this when you deleted the syncterm executable but settings were still being retained. that would mean it's in the windows registry or in your appdata dir

    hey, let's use a hammer to kill a fly, eh? why not just delete or edit the the syncterm config or phone book file... a quick look on my kubuntu system shows font entries for each BBS listed in the phone book file... so find your syncterm.lst and make sure all the font lines look like

    Looks like a SyncTerm question, and I have used ALT-L with both Synchronet and Mystic BBSs. Make sure the BBS's login details are correctly entered in the phonebook entry.

    I haven't checked for new SyncTerm updates recently.. I'll have to check that out. I'd thought about adding RIP screens to my BBS.

    Heh, yeah, that was the "Oh wait..." joke.

    I have much of the Outworld Arts collection of ANSI and RIP graphics in
    the file areas over here. I also have a door with proprietary ANSI files
    from "The Smile Project". Several of them also have ANSI animation and
    music.

    Yeah, I had some when I ran PCBoard

    I used the background template that had the software name (GT Power),
    then used Deadpaint (affectionately known as DEAD) to create the menus.
    I chuckled that in the documentation where the authors noted "Dead is a trademark of the undertaker, and Doctor Jack Kev... never mind". <G>

    Unfortunately, I don't think you can register it anymore. I have it
    over on the BBS computer, but rarely do RIP screens anymore.

    I doubt it'd work under Windows 10, and especially at the screen
    resolutions I have it at. Plus, I didn't do much with the program,
    except for creating menus.

    There's very few things you can register any more from back then.

    I was lucky to register most of the doors on the BBS before they

    As a side note, The PCL Net (packet) won't meet this Monday, Sept. 27.
    The computer that NS2B had for it went "tango uniform" last week. He has ordered a new computer, but it won't be in until the middle or latter
    part of next week. I'm alternate Net Control and Scribe for that net.

    I'm also working on getting a new shorter domain up for my personal
    homepage. The content won't change...just the URL. A fellow ham radio
    operator has offered hosting capabilities, which will save me quite a
    bit of money...and with medical issues, I can use all I can get right
    now.

    Thanks, one of the things enjoyed in more recent versions of Syncterm is the ability to hit alt+L for logging in to a BBS and having the user and password settings all set up.

    As it is you can supposedly hit alt+L and if the password does not take, a person can hit Alt-L again. The Alt-L option works great on the sychronet BBSs and a few others, but not all.

    Is there a chance that a different key could be assigned to the password field. That way when alt-L enters the user field but fails to send the password, the password can be sent by another Alt+(letter) command?

    I didn't know about this Alt-L feature, but if you configure an entry in your BBS list with RLogin or SSH, you can put your login credentials in there. I'm not sure why there would need to be a separate hotkey (Alt-L) for that. Unless I'm misudnerstanding something.

    Alt-L sends the login name and password normally. It works on some BBSes and not on others. For instance, I can login to my Synchronet BBS using Alt-L but not to my Atari BBS. It only sends the login name on the Atari BBS. I have seen this behavior on other BBSes also. So I understand Doc Clu's request for an additional programmable key for other BBSes.
