We have been off line for over 12 hours due to a power outage, and when we came back up, I can't connect to the bbs anymore. I've run and rerun the dyndns event about 15 times, and no go. I'm assuming ti IP address has change, and when I put the new ip address of comcast on the command line I can log in fine. I'm usings verts dndns service.
How long does it take for
the new ip address to set. It's been 1/2 hour so far. Any ideas. Thanks In Advance.
you should have this in your \sbbs\exec dir. dyndns.js (it will hit all the vert. with all the address it has) with a build date of Sunday, ‎Augus ‎23,
‎2015, ‏‎10:32:35 PM
it will take about 15 mins. right now I am having no problems, but it look l vert. bbs is. the cvs computer has problems
rock and a hard place till cvs comes back online. Like I said in the orig post, it connects fine if I type in the new ip address in syncterm, but everyone trying to reach me by valhalla.synchro.net can't reach me till the new ip address take hold in dyndns. Hopefully we can get this solved soon. Thanks for the reply

I know, I have dyndns.js version 1.10 in there now, and have been running it every half hour, and so far, it hasn't taken yet.
I went to cvs to see if
there was a newer version, but it's down, so I can't get a newer version if it exist to see if that will help.
So right now, I'm stuck between a rock

you should email the operator instead of posting it in a msg net. he might miss this message.

Ok, so you know the email address to the operator? I would send him a email if I knew the address..

I have been up to now, I stepped it up to onece ever 1/2 hour till this problem is resolved. I think it's goes hand in hand with cvs being down. When Rob gets back, I'm sure it will all be resolved.

Yes, I'd like that. I'll drop by after work today and pick it up.

From what I understand, Rob is out of town, and there is nothing he can do till he gets back. CVS is also down, and I have a feeling that my issue and cvs being down go hand in hand. I'll wait it out, for a few more days. I have outbound services, so I'm still picking up mail and other things.
when i'm away from home i can still answer emails and remote desktop into my computers. or call someone and tell them to power cycle a computer.

I understand what you are saying, but if the man is on vacation, let him relax and enjoy. It's not that critical that it can't wait a few days. I'm sure all will be settled soon enough when he gets home.

I am on vacation, but my Linux system (cvs.synchro.net) is easy to remotely administer. sbbs for Linux has been rock solid on that system for months, but of course, as soon as you leave for vacation, it crashes. Anyway, it (sbbs) is now restarted. All should be good now.

That's another unwritten rule of Sysoping. :P I guess the BBS gets
lonely when one isn't there. <G>
Yep, that's the way it seems to go. I think it's directly related to Murphy's Law.

On another note, I saw where the "temporary or permanent banning of an
IP" will be implemented with SBBS 3.17 -- is there a way to get it into 3.16, or is that just for those beta testing 3.17 now??
Also, normally, the "unknown user", "failed logon" and "javascript warnings" usually appear as different colors in the terminal server window...but after awhile, while they still appear (from logon attempts
such as "root", "admin", "system", "support", "supervisor", etc.), they appear just as the rest of the text...and I end up exiting and reloading
the SBBS Control Panel. However, does it matter if those "different
colors" show up or not??
No, you'd need to upgrade to a current development build of v3.17.
Doesn't matter. The coloring of log entries is just a convenience for the DM>sysop.
No, you'd need to upgrade to a current development build of v3.17.
OK, where can I get that?? I'm sure I'd have to follow a strict
procedure to avoid losing the current settings.

From the SBBS Announce :
So you want to play with the latest and greatest Synchronet code from CVS,
you're running Windows and have no idea how to compile and link the C/C++ LT>source code?
There's no guarantee the executables in this archive will work, so be sure t LT>backup your current working exectuables (*.exe and *.dll) first!
