So Synchronet does not have a mailer built in? I am running Mystic band have
a network on it and User's from Synchronet do not know how to hide AKA's, in mystic it's easy. Thanks for your reply Mark.

So Synchronet does not have a mailer built in?

Synchronet does not have an FTN mailer built in, at least not exactly. There is a new experimental FTN mailer called BinkIt (written by Stephen Hurd, aka Deuce) which executes from within the Synchronet JS engine. Perhaps that's what you're thinking of or inquiring about. If or how you "hide AKA's" in BinkIt, I don't know, but its open source JavaScript and easy to view and edit if someone really needs that feature.

Thanks Digital Man, that clears up a lot :)

There is now a Javascript mailer called BinkIT with the development builds, but traditionally, you had to use a separate mailer. So many Synchronet systems use a third party mailer. I use BinkD myself, which works well.

there's the new binkit but aside from that, you've always had to have your own mailer...

I am running Mystic band have a network on it and User's from

in mystic, the option was created because of something i asked about... i was polling another FTN but their stats were reporting my fidonet address... i don't connect to that system for anything fidonet related, only that othernet, so their stats were wrong and there was no real way to correct them... so g00r00 came up with this hiding AKAs method instead of using AKA matching which
would have placed my othernet address first in the list sent to the remote which would have then fixed everything right up as far as those stats went...

With both SBBS and Mystic, there's no reason you can't use a mailer of your choice, provided the mailer and BBS have compatible directory formats, e.g. BSO. I could be running BinkD with Mystic, but I choose to use the built in mailer on that system.

Syncrhonet's binkit is connecting well to mystic without any issues... in fact I'm connecting to your system no problem... you can check your logs.

You are not forced to use it. You can take it or leave it. Perosnally I like it as it's one less thing I have to run and take up memory.

Bink-it with Sunchronet is working quite well... Mystic's internal mailer works quite well. But you have the option fo running something else if you CHOOSE on both systems. It is all about choice... and you are given plenty of choices ou t there.

Hmm, not such a big issue these days. The biggest selling point for a built in mailer is convenience - both Synchronet and Mystic are capable of "all in one" operation. Mystic, additionally can use other tossers.

There's pros and cons. I use binkd on Synchronet and like it. On Mystic, I use the inbuilt mailer. I did consider binkd for IPv6 support and a common mailer, but IPv6 is now a moot point (the latest alpha build has it), and Mystic's binkp support is nicely integrated into the configuration.

    Choice is good. :)
