• sbbsecho outbound netmail packet issue

From DaiTengu@VERT to All on Wed Aug 17 04:00:27 2016
    Hi all,
I'm having a strange problem trying to send netmail. sbbsecho doesn't seem to want to export a lone netmail as a FLO packet (or whatever it is, I'm not sure I'm explaining it right)

I'm using SBBSECHO with binkd. here's what happens.

    - I create a netmail message.
    - I run sbbsecho -f (although apparently -f is no longer needed)
    - sbbsecho finds the netmail, packs it up, and puts it in ../mail/fidoout with a .pkt extension
    - sbbsecho exits.

binkd does not appear to recognize this .pkt file, as it just goes on its merry way of doing nothing.

Reading through the util:sbbsecho wiki page, isn't the packet suppoed to have a .?ut extension?

    Here's the output from SBBSECHO:

    Yes, unless:
    A. You have SBBSecho configured for Attach/ArcMail operation, or
    B. You have the detination node configured to use an outbound mailbox ("outbox")

I do indeed have it configured to use an outbox,
as that was the way I understood it needed to be set up for
multiple networks. Is that not the case?

At least this gets me on the right track, though. Thanks!

No, the fileboxes are just a convenience since no FLO files are needed. Of course you would have to configure BinkD to look in your configured outbox directory for files for that node, but a *.pkt file should work just fine in that case.

Ok, got it sorted. What I needed to do was just put "1" as my primary zone in binkd, for example:
    domain fidonet /sbbs/mail/fidoout 1
    domain fido alias-for fidonet
    domain fidonet.org alias-for fidonet
    domain whispernet /sbbs/mail/fidoout 1

Originally I had, with the outbox configured:
    domain whispernet /sbbs/mail/wnetout 316

Since I've actually set binkd and sbbsecho up before, (many years ago), I just figured i could cruise through it by looking at examples. Last night I decided to actually read the binkd docs and, combined with what you told me, I realized that the above was the proper way to set such things up :)

    Thanks for the help!

No problem. Glad you got it sorted. I've never done multie-zone/domain/net stuff with BinkD before, so sorry I couldn't be of more help.
