Recently, I took the dive and switched over to synchronet-web-v4 from Nightshade CSS.

I'm looking to add a bulletins sub or RSS sub feed to my home page like on the bbs.electronicchicken.com homepage. Anyone know the basics on how to do this?

Also, it would be nice to show "extended" file information in the files menu by default. Right now, it defaults to what appears to be a one line description for files.

    I appreciate the help!

My bulletin lister (Bullshit) includes a web component, with an example XJS page and some details in the readme:

    http://cvs.synchro.net/cgi-bin/viewcvs.cgi/xtrn/bullshit/

However, this does not include an RSS feed generator. If that's something you want, I believe there's another thing for that out there.

Also, it would be nice to show "extended" file information in the files menu by default. Right now, it defaults to what appears to be a one line description for files.

At present, the file lister shows the file name, upload date, size, description, and extended description (if available). Very little other information is available that would be of any use to anyone, though if desired I could also include the name of the uploader and how many times the file has been downloaded.

If you could give an example of what additional details about files you want to see, I can look into it.

Thanks, I got it working! Also, I was able to log on to the BBS using an android phone. Did not know the web software was optimized for mobile devices, that really rocks! :-)

For file area, here is a link showing the current files with a multi-line file_id.diz showing only one line. In the original FTP Synchronet software and in the Nightshade CSS, you had the option to select a short file listing or a long file listing.

The long file listing showed most of the lines of the file_id.diz. Here is a link showing files which should show a long file listing but is currently only showing a one line:

    http://asirta.com:8008/?page=002-files.ssjs&dir=bbs

Below, in this example at vert, you can see on the web page it says "description" [short] if you click this, it will change the current extended description to a short "one line" description. Synchronet defaults, I believe, to a one line description. Note the "Fext=on" referring to the extended file extension in the site below.

    ftp://vert.synchro.net/Synchronet/00index.html%3Fext=on

There is a file somewhere in the Synchronet directory where I think you can manually change the default file listing from short to extended. I could hunt this down and do it manually. But, it would be easier, if I could choose it or force it to do this in the ECweb4 web template.

    Thanks for the help,
    Lith,

Looks like something about the multi-line description is breaking the formatting somehow. I'll have to look into it.

Right now it's supposed to show the extended description whenever it's available. I think that's what it's trying to do here, but there's some formatting trouble. We could turn this into a global option, a user/session option, or a per-file toggle, but I prefer to just show the extended info if it's there.
