One thing I ran across that messed with me was this:
Using CVS, you can wget GNUmakefile and use gmake to compile/install.
Using Non-CVS, you have to grab the files, run gmake in a few of the
folders to compile/install.
Apparently I had used the CVS option above for the initial install and
later used the "Updating" instructions at the bottom of the page.
Typically I do a debug build, but I didnt realize:
CVS method make default is to build release version.
Non-CVS/Updating method, the make default is to build the debug version.
Anyways, I guess i need to pay more attention, but it did throw some
confusion in my update process.
