I agree, it is a nice interface. I'm so jealous, no matter what I try, I simply can not seem to get fTelnet to work when I follow the instructions given t at the github site for the interface.

    Any secrets you can share?

All I can really suggest is to go over the instructions again to make sure you didn't miss a step. If I remember right, there are two extra ports that need to be opened, and two services that need to be added to services.ini.

simply can not seem to get fTelnet to work when I follow the instructions given t at the github site for the interface.

Do you see any errors in your services log when you restart your BBS? How about when you try to connect via fTelnet?

Adding the [WebSocketTelnet] and [WebSocketRLogin] sections to ctrl/services.ini (and opening the related ports) is all that you should really need to do in order to get this working. If you had a previous websocket service configured there, it should be commented out or deleted.

The problem may be DNS-related. One potentially-dumb thing I did was tell the websocket telnet service to open a connection to 'system.inet_addr' on the TelnetPort specified in the [BBS] section of ctrl/sbbs.ini. You could modify mods/websocket-telnet-service.js, and do a find-and-replace to change 'system.inet_addr' to '"127.0.0.1"' (be sure to include those double-quotes around the IP address).

    Yes,

Then of course you need to set port forwarding correctly, etc..

I don't think he's the one experiencing the problem (believe it was Hemo), but I am leaning toward it being a DNS thing.

I'll probably just change it so that the websocket telnet proxy service just connects onward to localhost; should be no harm in that except in weirdo multinode scenarios which probably never happen. (ie. someone running their webserver on one machine, but terminal server on another.)

change 'system.inet_addr' to '"127.0.0.1"' (be sure to include those double-quotes around the IP address).

Either this, or adding my hostname to the /system32/drivers/etc/hosts "weird place for host file" did it for me.

Yeah, that was me... I had to put this in my hosts file (win32)

    kk4qbn.synchro.net 127.0.0.1

and that took care of my issues.

Which connection do you see happening in your logs? There should be two:

Step one: fTelnet connects to the websocket server
Step two: the websocket server connects to your terminal server

Step two happens locally, so the telnet (or rlogin) connection would appear to be coming from localhost.

via telegram. I saw it use the API is there any of them to check and

There are various APIs in play here. The "Synchronet Javascript Object Model" is the API being used on the server side. The "web/root/api/" directory provides a web API to be used client (browser) side; it turns around and talks to the aforementioned server-side API. Both of these APIs are just ways of hooking into Synchronet's internal functions.

show the weather? There is one for the ircbot but unfortunately it show
    me only null values.

The weather info that the IRC bot displays comes from an external web API (Weather Underground, IIRC) and not from the BBS itself. You may be getting empty responses or whatever if you haven't gone to their site to sign up for an API key (and configured that bot plugin to use it). Not sure, I haven't looked at that stuff in a while.

Are you hoping to show the weather at *your* location to any user who visits your site? Or were you wanting to display the weather at the visitor's location? In either case I suspect various weather sites provide embed code for this sort of thing; should be easy to turn that into a sidebar module.

connect on what port(s)? you may be seeing MIRAI and variant probe connections... especially if they are on ports 23, 2323, 5555, and one other one that i can't recall at the moment... they are gathering IP numbers and reporting them back to the botherder for later infestation attempts... some infestation attempts are also very slow in their transmissions... the critter is coded for variable speeds as a way of trying to 1) avoid attention and 2) possibly bypass certain timing related blockings...
