• mail server shutdown

From mark lewis@VERT to digital man on Wed Dec 28 07:31:00 2016
this is rather unnerving... is it because of the shutdown like we see with JSON? this is after 10 days running but there's only 7 days of archived logs...
that limit has been increased to 4 weeks, now...

Dec 28 07:13:33 haven synchronet: mail 0006 closing SMTP Server socket on port 25

Dec 28 07:13:33 haven synchronet: mail 0007 closing POP3 Server socket on port 110

Dec 28 07:13:33 haven synchronet: mail #### Mail Server thread terminated (0 connections served, 0 messages received, 2 errors, 2 critcal)

pardon? SBBS comes with its own mail server... it is just a matter of configuring it in the ini files and setting the options in scfg properly ;)

in this case, it basically replaces the one that that linux box would be running... since it is a BBS box, no other mail server is really needed... i have not (yet) tested to see if it accepts emails from cron jobs but i would hope that it does... sure, it means having to log into the BBS to get those reports instead of using a regular mail client like pine or thunderbird but what the hell, hunh?

i don't recall if it also provides POP3 access to the private mail but if it does, that's tre sweet... i don't care about IMAP but that might also be cool if one needs or desires it...

    Nice mate.

    thanks, i think...

Yes, the Synchronet SMTP server can receive any mail, including cron job reports. And no, you don't have to log into the BBS to get those reports as the Synchronet mail server includes a POP3 server (just use a regular mail client).
