• Empty Message Base

From DesotoFireflite@VERT/VALHALLA to All on Mon Jan 16 17:36:00 2017
I just went to import a message into a message base, something I do on a monthly basis, as I am the moderator, and the message will not import. SMBUTIL keeps saying it's empty. Have I inenverntaly broke something when I moved the bbs to a new machine. The sht, shd, and sid files are there, but all 0 bytes. The last file date was 1/7/17 which was after the move. What's keeping it from importing?

probably the fact you have set yourself up as moderator, From what I read, moderator must post a message on that sub before any other message will actualy post, or something to that extent, I had actually setup another user on the system as 'moderator' to some groups thinking I gave them sysop type abilitys to the areas, but actually I just locked the areas down. and this sounds like what you've done. I'm sure there is a good reason for having a moderator setup on the message areas, but I have'nt read up enough into it to see. instead I keep the areas tied into security levels.

I'll look into it, but the other area I moderate had no messages either, and it imported there ok. I'll try to post a test message in the echo in question, and see if it will post and free up the echo. Thanks for the suggestion.

Solved. Somehow the flag "Use Real Names" got toggled to yes. Changed that, and all is working now.

Try adding the '-c' option to create the msgbase (if empty/non-existent).
