If you actually named the file 'subjects.can', that could be a problem.
It's meant to be 'subject.can'.

According to the wiki, it's case-insensitive. Your strings will probably work if you move the tilde to the end.

- The speical tilde (~) must be at the *end* of the search string
- The search strings are case-insensitive
That was what was not clear in that doc... where to place the tilde. Examples help, especially with those of us who have had a traumatic brain
I'd suggest starting by searching the wiki, then resort to the older documentation if you can't find what you're looking for. If there's a wiki page, it'll be newer and quite possibly better. In this case the wiki page has more details (placement of the tilde, case insensitivity) than the old docs, and has examples.
