Good Deal! Very Informative! I had no idea you can send a 0-message packet!
That'd be so cool! Create a bunch of 0-message packets, then watch as
the message tosser just zap's them away without exporting any
messages!

It sounds like he needed a basic course of IP addresses first. I knew
a (now former) Sysop who had NO CLUE what the AUTOEXEC and CONFIG files were on the system -- really??!! What are they doing running a BBS??!!
oh wow.. and that right there is why i don't really like the idea of autoconfig scripts, etc.. if someone needs a script to do all the BBS instal/setup/configuration, then how in the crap will they actually be able to run the BBS. I can understand having one for a sysop who is already setup and would just like to hav eit to roll the bbs back out incase something happens. but I've seen and committed some doozies in my

Many authors hate writing the docs as much as we hate reading
it...but, they also have to cater to "the lowest common denominator" (LCD), as not everyone is as computer savvy as they are.

Well sometimes I think people using the software for the first time might not know the best initial settings. A script to get it set up would set some reasonable defaults that the sysop could then tweak according to their needs. I don't always like the idea of requiring everyone to basically re-invent the wheel as far as doing all the initial setup work themselves. It's good to know how it works though, for sure.
Real Sysops read the docs...or at least skim them...a nice way of
saying RTFM. :P

Maybe I am misunderstanding but, when I make one of those BBS list entries, if it asks for my "network address" I always put my QWK ID in there for my DoveNet address. So it would look sort of like
Fido: 1:2320/105 DoveNet: CAPCITY2 Micronet: 618:250/1 etc.
I would guess not everyone does that but it is one way to get it out there where folks can find it.

I've since sent DM apologies for jumping the gun.. :)

As do I but when I installed the new 'list' the first entry didn't, therefore I
thought (bad thing to do sometime) it wasn't as the old version was like where >they showed it. After discussion with Rob, I went to my entry and sure enough,
the addresses were there, both QWK-ID and FTN.

These computers can be tricky like that. :)

When it comes to the computer, my tolerance level for exploration seems
to have gone down in relation to my age going up. :)

I use it like *every day*, so not sure what're talking about there.

I just realized a few days ago that putting asterisks around a word or phrase, as you did above, makes the text appear *BOLD*. Pretty neat! ;)
