    How do I go about getting my bbs onto the Internet? Went to the address and I get a connection timed out error.
    I currently have CenturyLink as my ISP

    I got an address from no-ip.com

    phoenyxbbs.ddns.net
    phoenyxbbs.mynetgear.com

    I have tried the following:

    1. Setup port forwarding on modem
    2. DMZ

    You need to do a bit of troubleshooting:

    1. Is the IP on the ISP side of the router public? Can you post an example WAN IP?

    2. Do you run any firewalls? - on the router? Windows Firewall or Linux iptables? If so, have you opened the ports for the BBS in the firewall?

    3. Double check the port forwarding, make sure the LAN IP of the BBS is static, because port forwarding will break if it changes.

    My WAN IP is 184.5.50.156
    Just Windows 10 firewall is enabled
    I have set the the port forwarding to a static ip address 192.168.0.2

    just tried both addresses and they both work great on my end.
    Nice looking web page btw

    Your webpage works great, however your ftelnet is set to local host so you will need to change that to your ip addy.

    Not sure.
    all I know is that it works great on my end except your ftelnet wich is trying to connect locally, just edit ftelnet and put your internet address and it should work as well.

    Probably because you're trying to connect from the same computer as the BBS and your router/gateway doesn't support hair-pinning (where it directs packets right back to the computer/host from which it came): https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hairpinning

    If your router doesn't support hairpinning, then you'll need to connect to your private/local address instead. Just you, your users will still use your public hostname/IP address.

    You can try to telnet to localhost, or if you want to use the DNS you setup, look for something in your router settings in regards to: "Forward local domain
    queries to upstream DNS", and set that to yes.

    At the moment, your router is not allowing you to connect to yourself.

    pull your services up using your local IP (127.0.0.1) or iterface IP. being behind your router may be cutting you off from your hostname (happens here).

    OK, can you try connecting to those services on the LAN IP from another machine on the LAN? I suspect you can, I'm able to access your BBS via HTTP from here.
    So everything is working.

    OK, based on my testing, I believe I know the problem. You're attempting to access the external IP of the BBS from within your LAN. A lot of routers don't support this. You need to do any Internet testing from a machine outside your LAN (mobile phone works, provided it's not on your wifi).

    If you want to access the BBS from another machine on the LAN, you need to use the LAN IP address to access the system.

    I notice telnet doesn't work, and I also notice there's no port forwarding for telnet in your router config, and HTMLTerm says it's trying to connect to your domain name (which I suspect points to your outside IP). There might be other ports needed for the HTML terminal, but that I don't know much about. I'm sure others can help there.

    I'm not sure how HTMLTerm works, whether it runs on the client tnd and makes a connection (port forwarding for telnet would be required), or if it acts more like a proxy.
