Is Synchronet 3.16c set up for a 64bit OS, or is it strictly 32bit? I keep having problems with error messages telling me that a 16bit program will not run.

If you are running a 64-bit version of Windows, 16-bit programs are not natively supported (this has nothing to do with Synchronet). You may have some success running 16-bit programs in DOSbox on Win64, but your better bet is to run a 32-bit version of Windows (e.g. XP, Win7, or even Win10) as a VM and run your BBS in that VM. Regardless of BBS software.
why are you the only one who answers... is there anyone who knows what they are doing?

Is that a Facebook imitation? :-)

One other thing I found was my compression software would not work either. I'm not sure if 64bit compatible versions are out there.....

There are Win32 command-line versions of pkzip/unzip, rar/unrar, etc.
What are you looking for?

My Synchronet exec directory includes zip.exe and unzip.exe, which are InfoZip's 32-bit zip and unzip tools. I thought they were included with Synchronet, but if not, you should be able to find them online.
Synchronet's stock configuration was already set up to use those in the extractable and compressable files options.
But if you want pkzip and pkunzip, there is a 32-bit pkzip for the Windows command line that does both compression and extraction. I have it for download here if you want it: ftp://www.digitaldistortionbbs.com/win9xntxpvis/WIN-COMP/pk250c32.exe
And I agree, you're better off using the Info-Zip tools. But either should work though the command-lines are quite different.

I've seen a couple instances where my BBS was exchanging a zipped message packet (I don't remember if it was via QWK or FTN), and InfoZip's tool was unable to unzip it, but the pkzip tool had no problem unzipping it. Since then I have switched to the pkzip tool for unzipping.
I'm pretty sure that could be found many places on the web, but I even have DM>v2.50 (for Win32) here: ftp://vert.synchro.net/util/pk250c32.exe

I have removed the packet passwords...as I don't see a need for them.

I still have the DOS versions of that, and use that with QWK Mail
packing on the BBS...for those who may be using older QWK Mail Readers.
I'm not clear why you would need a "DOS version" for compatiblity with older DM>QWK Mail readers. The modern versions of pkunzip and info-zip can create ZIP DM>files compatible with the oldest versions of pkunzip. And they can extract a DM>ZIP file. So I don't think running an old version is really necessary. <shru
